My copy of the first 3 seasons of Chef has arrived and the episodes are every bit as good as I remember them being when I saw them several years ago. I definitely recommend this set.

This was one I saw years ago on PBS and would definitely give it a try on DVD.

QUestion...were there more than 3 seasons? I thought the end of the 3rd was
the Jamaica trip? are there more beyond that?

Chef is currently my wife's favorite Britcom. Our local PBS affiliate started showing this early-90's classic about four weeks ago and she adores it. I'm a big fan myself because Lenny Henry, who plays Gareth Blackstock, is so intense as the anal retentive lead character and he's so over-the-top that you can't help but admire his performance every week.

Now that's it out on DVD I may have to break down and get it....

I used to enjoy this program on PBS. Sadly, they stopped showing it, I barely remember much about it.

You will really enjoy this Minki. Lenny Henry is hilarious! After watching a couple of episodes you'll be hooked. The writing is great.

For all who do not know, Lenny Henry is married to Dawn French (Vicar of Dilby).

Ok, I know this is an old thread...but, there's no point in making a new one when this one just needs to be dusted off :D

I only just heard of this show recently, as a result of wathcing the surprisingly disappointing dvd "Funny Blokes of British Comedy," which Lenny Henry hosted. (IMO it was not very good, it was more like a long commercial by BBC for the shows they have available on DVD. Some of the footage was just taken from other things, like the bonus features from the AYBS discs, rather than new interviews. But some of it was stuff I hadn't seen before. It got up my nose that John Inman barely got a mention :b**ch:. It did introduce me to some new shows, though, so I guess watching it wasn't a total waste.)

Anyway I just rented the 3 series for Chef from netflix and it was pretty good. I wasn't like, "OMG it's so great I must buy it NOW," but it did manage to keep drawing my attention back to the show when I started to drift into doing other things. That's always a good sign. I am an incurable multi-tasker when I am watching TV, unless something is really good or just requires full attention, like documentaries or subtitled films.

I especially loved Chef's temper tantrums. And his bad singing after his wife left him  All in all I'd probably watch it again. :)

well...i love british comedy, but this is one that i will pass on. chef is sorta fun, but the rest of the cast is lackluster, at least to me. i'll watch it if there is nothing on, but other than that, i shall pass.

I have this one close to getting here on my Netflix queue. I thought it was good when I watched it on PBS.

I liked it for his tantrums and insults. Makes Gordon Ramsey look like Mrs Slocombe's pussy.

I have always felt that Gordon Ramsey got his nastiness from watching Chef !
