I received the following from a visitor to my web site:

I'm currently working on a song with some friends, in which we intend to use elements of the Are you Being Served theme as the backing. I was wondering if you had any idea of whom I could contact to seek permission to use the song, and if any royalties would be necessary. If you can point me in the right direction of who I should get in touch with, it would be greatly appreciated.

Whom should he contact--the BBC?

I agree. The BBC probably owns the rights; if not, they can point them in the direction of who does.
