Just wanted to remind everyone that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, this disease invaded my own family. I had a lump removed in February that was benign, but my mother was found to have Stage 4 (to bone) invasive ductal carcinoma this summer. Please go get your mammograms ladies, and encourage all your sisters, Moms, grandmoms etc. to do likewise. Do not be afraid of what they may find. If cancer is caught early, it can be treated and your survival chances are quite good. Some good news about my Mom....even though her breast cancer has settled in certain areas of bone, her treatments are currently working to help reduce the disease in her body. Her tumour receptor test came back 34.1. Down almost 30 points! We aren't out of the woods, and there is no cure for her advanced stage, but she will be with us as long as we keep that cancer in her bones. With new treatments, breast cancer no longer has to be a death sentence. Now...everyone go out and GET SQUISHED THIS MONTH!!! . http://luciearnaz.com/smilies/sm11.gif

As someone who has had two breast lumpectomies before the age of 30, I also urge you (or the women in you life) to go and get checked.
The earlier it is detected, the better the chances are. And it's a hell of a lot better to know if there's a problem and take care of it than to not know. So please, go get those mammograms!!!

Right on, sistah. And as in my Mom's case....sometimes older ladies prefer to sweep this under the rug. "No history in my family"....."It'll NEVER happen to me..." And one I have heard at a recent dinner party at a friends' house "I wouldn't WANT to know because the chemo kills you anyway....." Ignorance is NOT bliss. Please chose to be SMART!! :thumb: :germanweek: :thumb:

My Mother and my brother both died from cancer. If they had gotten checked earlier they both would have had a chance. Think about it people. If you find out you can be treated. :)

Cancer runs in my family as well. I almost lost my Mother because she was under the philosophy that "what I don't know cant' hurt me". I know make sure she goes up for her regular check ups. Men also should be checked. I myself almost had a scare a few weeks back.

I go tomorrow for testing for endometrial cancer. I'm a little scared but they say they don't think that's it, but want to rule it out. Cancer doesn't run in our family, but I guess it has to start somewhere.

Good for you Goldie. I am glad you're being up front and getting the test done.

I just had that test a couple months ago because I had some symptoms that weren't "normal" for me. Everything was fine. The test isn't very pleasant, but at least you'll know if somthing is wrong. It's always better to know, as we've said. Good luck!

My aunt died from breast cancer in 1993. It was caught fairly early, but because she only had 1 lung (which was damaged) they couldn't treat it as aggressively as they would have liked (they thought the radiation would burn her lung). She died the day Clinton was inaugurated, which was ironic since she was a life-long Republican. [No, she didn't lose her lung from smoking--she had TB as a young woman.]

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone.. :grouphug: .. I shall be leaving this afternoon.. I doubt that I will know anything today. I have another appointment next week with the doctor to talk about was found. Another thing they are checking for today is Polycystic Ovarian Disease. That can be lived with from my understanding.. it's the cancer that is a little un-nerving..
Thanks again.. means alot.. :D

Well all, I'm back.. basically, what the techy said was there are cysts present, but she wouldn't go into detail. Evidently she wasn't even supposed to say that much, but she said she could tell I seemed a little upset (that was an under statement  ) and thought she would at least give me that much so I wouldn't worry all week until my next doctors appointment. I think I'm going to worry anyway.. LOL.. I guess I will just have to wait until next Thursday to see what the doc say.. Thanks for thinking of me. It really does mean alot..

I myself had the Big "C" scare a few weeks back Goldie. I had my nerves worn down to the bone and then I found out that all that energy was wasted on nothing. Hang in there girl !!!!:thumb:

I hope everything works out well for you, Goldie!
You can live with PCOS--my friend's wife has it. One of the big things that women with PCOS have is that they have a very hard time getting pregnant. After several years of trying, they finally did manage to have a baby through in-vitro fertilization.

Minki,
Thanks for the well wishes.. I'm just overwhelmed by all the good wishes and thoughts.. it really does help..
:D
I have two children but have miscarried a couple of times. At the time the doctor wasn't sure why. The doctor I'm seeing now is saying that is probably why I miscarried to begin with and just didn't know it. My daughter is 12 now and my son is 8. After my daugther was born we lost 2. So we just figured that we wouldn't be able to have anymore and along comes my son   .. We were very scared during that pregnancy but everything went fine. We never did have anymore. So the more I'm learning about PCOS the more I see that that could have been the cause. Plus on the symptom list, I have all with the exception of hair loss  .. so I have a great amount of peace with the whole thing now that I've read up on it.. hopefully that's what I have..

Its being discovered in AZ that more and more people are getting skin cancer because of the attraction of basking in the sun....It used to be that only people
over thirty would get skin cancer, but they are finding that kids in their
teens are also getting it....this is the melanoma type ( terminal) of cancer too. Remember the sunscreen. (still sounds like a battle cry to me)
