I was reading in her book that when she was a teen she was hit by a car on her first day of school at her performing arts school. She said that she had 33 stiches in her head.

Beside the cancer and being hit by a car she also had a lung infection and collasped on the set during AYBS seventh season. I wonder which episode?

I think I remember reading somewhere that she attempted and failed her driving test 6 times. During her last attempt she accidentally ran off the road and hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was OK but Wendy vowed to giving up driving for good. :(

Poor girl, she hasn't had much luck in the way of automobiles, has she?

I know at one point she was in a rather abusive relationship.
I really ought to get her bio and read it. She's a fascinating woman and I love watching her on EastEnders (one of the few good things remaining about the show unfortunately).

I just remembered she wrote in her book that she also tried to commit suicide. It was in 1972, her mom had just died and she was divorcing her first husband. I cannot imagine her dying after they had just filmed the pilot.

She had one Hell of a life, poor girl. As my Grandmother used to say "What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger."

I have an old article from Wendy that talks about the abusive relationship as pointed out by Minki. Really sad for such a fine actress. Thank goodness she's turned her life into one of remarkable accomplishments!

:( I've somehow managed to not see this thread before now - I had no idea some of these things had happened to Wendy, collapsing on the AYBS set etc... I've never read Wendy's book so I didn't know.

I haven't seen a lot of these threads either so I'm just shining a light on interesting posts of the bygone era. :)

I have her book and I love reading it. She found her father dead when she was 11 years old. I think that was when he committed suicide.

I wonder if her book is sold over here in bookstores like B&N or Borders? I guess I'll have to call the stores up and find out! (Amazon's good, I'm just curious.)

I've tried B&N before, but they didn't carry it. :(

It may not be carried in the US...you'll probably have the best luck with Amazon UK.
