Everyone insulted ole Jugears at one time or another. What were some of your favorite insults ???

I dunno if this is technically an insult....but I love this line

:peacock01:if one were drowning, Mr. Rumbold would be the first to hold out an electric cattle prod!!

I also like the one in Christmas crackers where one of the staff...cannot remember who this early in the morning, holds the dishes to the side of their head and goes guess who???

^^ I don't know if that was in Christmas Crackers, but in the episode Shedding The Load, when the staff need to decide who will be made redundant, that is the reason Mr. Lucas gives for his vote towards Captain Peacock. That one is my favourite also. The one in Christmas Crackers is where Mr. Grainger is wearing his novelty (a pair of large ears) and the dialoge goes something like this...
:peacock01: I know who that reminds me of
(?):humphries01: Mr Rumbold!
:peacock01: Exactly!

I always liked:

Rumbold: "This is MY office. This is MY desk."

Mr. Grace: "Oh, so that's your wife then? Thank heaven for that."

Maybe more of an insult to Rumbold's wife but still funny...

As best I remember the dialogue off the top of my head:

:brahmhead1:: They had an artist's impression of an extraterrestrial being. Eurgh, it was 'orrible. Great pink thing it was, with no hair, googly eyes, and sticky-out ears.

:rumbhead:[entering]: Hello everyone, sorry I'm late!

On Mr. Rumbold's ears and his/their look on television:'
Capt. Peacock: "He looks like a hang-glider."
Director: "I would have said more like a wing-nut."

In an early episode, Rumbold calls himself "dense". Who are we to argue? ;)

In the episode where they have to practice complimenting each other (by saying "I Like You Betty), Miss Brahms calls him Old Jug Ears to his face LOL.

I believe this was from Christmas Crackers too:

Everyone is waiting for Mr. Rumbold to show up and start their early morning meeting about Christmas displays. They were wondering what was keeping him and Mr. Humphries says: "There was quite a gale blowing when I left this morning. Perhaps as he was saying goodbye to his wife at the door a good wind caught him behind the ears and blew him back in again." LOL

Mr. Humphries says: "There was quite a gale blowing when I left this morning. Perhaps as he was saying goodbye to his wife at the door a good wind caught him behind the ears and blew him back in again."

I thought that was a clever insult. It was a variation on a common theme (Rumbold's big ears), but I thought it was particularly funny.

That whole "Closed Circuit" dialog directed at Rumbold is some of the best insults the series has to offer. From the "wing nuts" to the "his head is shining like the dome of St. Paul." I especially love ...
Rumbold - "Would it help if I breathed in?"
Humphries - "Only if you have lungs in your head."

Oh, That DOES Suit Madam!

I like when Rumbold is on the phone with Mr. Grace and says 'Yes....the crawler' in reference to himself.

The acknowledging look/nod that Harman gives is great!!

What about from Shedding the Load...

Mr. Grace: "When I was in the fish trade, we used to say when a fish was bad, it was the head that went bad first. Who's in charge of this department?"

Rumbold: "Who's in charge? I am."

Mr. Grace: "Oh. Had any headaches lately?"

In Heir Apparent, Mr. Rumbold allows Mr. Humphries to sit in his chair when he calls Mr. Humphries to his office. Mr. Rumbold tells Mr. Humphries that if he ever needs to know anything, just come to him because he all keeps his ear to the ground. Mr. Humphries replies that Mr. Rumbold must cover alot of territory then.

I think it's in "Think Tank" where Capt. Peacock has just explained somthing (I guess the think tank theory...sorry I'll have to get my dvd out when I get home)..and Rumbold asks where he learned that...

:peacock01: One reads books.

PnJ, that is in the Think Tank but it's when Capt. Peacock first arrives and Mr. Mash is washing the dummy. Capt. Peacock is telling Mr. Rumbold how things are done by nuns. And when Mr. Rumbold asked Capt. Peacock how he knows this, Capt. Peacock says "One reads books."
