View Full Version : My first foray into AYBS? Forums
I guess this is the place to post this - I've started an AYBS? forum entitled AUBSForum (original, huh?). So here it is...
http://z4.invisionfree.com/aubsforum/index.php?act=idx
I know it looks forbodding, but I'm discovering how to use InvisionBoard - and I would appreciate it if a few of you joined up, just so I can have a few moderators and admins as soon as I work out how to do it
And would you let me know if it works, as I may have to fix up a few things if it doesn't.
Thanks :). (Oh, and I'm Wilberforce_Claybourne :))
I apologise if this is in the wrong place.

The only thing I ask is that thread ideas, our AYBS? related smilies that we've worked hard to choose and put up, or any other materials from here not be copied onto any other boards. If you're posting a very similar idea for a thread, give a nod to us here (for example....the thread you have up on "Character Studies" originated here on this board. Good luck. :saludando:
My apoliogies Tiddles - that was the first title that popped into my head - it's for a general thread about Mr. Humphries - I promise I will change the title :)

Hi,
I don't know of you noticed my AYBS forum, but I would be happy to allow you to use some of my threads/ideas since they are no where else anyway and will give your forum more variety. I'm looking to phase out a few sections anyway. You already have more people than me so that's good! :) Will discuss more by PM.

No offense but why join a carbon copy of this board ? I've viewed your board and it's nothing more than a knock off of this one.
What's the point ?

Nothing wrong with supporting your forum, but...
why not? "There are more fish in the sea" as they say and every forum has their unique style as well. It's fun seeing other avenues being explored and not deal with pretty redundant things all the time. Besides on both forums you don't need to join to view postings-so I'm sure one could be a frequent guest not to miss something-who wouldn't?! ;)
I don't know which forum you are referring to, but they are both different than Minki's in terms of layout and structure and the postings anyway. There are many people that have similar interests and it would be selfish to think that others can't expand on things or not be allowed to (too old to be "clique-ky" now! :)). There's still so many more areas that could be covered in forums that would be more of interest to fans and it's up to others to explore that.
Just like it's your choice to pick the forums you want to be a part of- it is others' choice to make forums, sites, etc. based on the same topic. That's what makes the world go 'round! ;)
What's so hard about supporting people that have the same interests? It's just fun learning experience for me as well as getting good info out to the fans-not competition.
Marlies
Well said, Marlies. My forum is similar, but different to this thread in many ways, here you discuss AYBS?, as you do in my forum, but here, tell me, is there a fan fiction section for fans who enjoy writing stuff based on the series, does t hve a large section devoted to countless TV Shows and movies, or a large section devoted to news? Don't get me wrong, I don't think anything will ever compare to Minki (just add that in), mine might just attract a few lurkers who want different opinions about something, or stuff like that.
Eva.

Fan fiction was going to be done here a while back and never caught on.

Just let me say this to all members so no one thinks I'm singling them out. A board is only as good as the members make it. If you find yourselves bored enough to make another of the same type of board or gravitate towards another board because you feel it's all "been done before" then you only have yourselves to blame. You (as in all members, just not one entity) have a responsiblitly to make the place as exciting as you can. There isn't something that can be discussed at one place and not the other.
If you feel that you have done what you could at a place and wish to move on then I wish you all the luck. Diversity and choice is what makes us human but don't blame the place or the people when you were part of the crowd yourselves.

I agree with this statement.. up to a point. There's nothing wrong with forums of the same topic. The problem comes in when you go to someone else's forum to "recruit" members. I find that rude and inconsiderate of all the hard work put into this forum.
And I apologise for that.
My apologise again, I understand what you are saying Goldie :)

Kind of the nature of the message board beast, Goldie. What's pathetic is when people outright steal others' hard work and unfortunately it happens all the time. Perhaps not here so much but heck we have to assume our "finds" here have been used elsewhere. These forums become an easy place for people to advertise their websites and boards for the obvious reason: the target audience is rapt. Minki should be applauded for her generosity in this respect. Many boards PROHIBIT this type of recruitment. In a nutshell it takes a long time to develop a sense of "community". To get the members. To keep them coming back. To keep them feeling safe and cared about. To keep them informed and entertained. And we've SUCCEEDED at this here for YEARS. We shouldn't look upon other people's boards as anything more than a creative exercise. I do not condone a feeling that other boards pose a threat to us or act as "competition". Eva is only 17 years old, so I wish her luck with her forum. It takes a lot of experience to understand the soft underbellies of message boards. Many fail at it. I remain very loyal to this forum and have no desire, nor time, to invest in other forums. Nothing personal. But I can't impress on Eva enough the need to get a good, solid and TRUSTED moderation team under her belt (really take time and HIRE people as you would for a real job) and not have too many of them. Once they have the board "controls" all sorts of nasty things can happen. After all, this IS the internet and some people's motivations for accessing board controls can be very seedy, and untoward. That will be my only advice. :p

No offense, but man, how *LOW* can you go? That is a pretty harsh thing to say to anybody! Just thoughtless and *cold* and really shows the true colors of what this forum is about.

Excuse me?? Just what are you talking about? How's your reading comprehension, Marlies?? Everything I said I said from the heart with FULL SUPPORT to THIS forum and any new ones. I am a member of other non AYBS? boards and I see corruption and stealing all the time. THAT was what I talking about. I think I posted about Eva's new venture with kindness and compassion.

The "true colors" of this board speak for themselves. Marlies you can have a couple days "time out" from here since this board doesn't seem to be working for you lately. I've had enough of you for today on other issues and you've worn out my patience. You were warned after all. ;)

Very well said Tids. I'd just like to add that a few other members have tried the foray into their own board and nothing bad was thought of that. They were and still are always welcome here. I unfortunetly don't have the time to gravitate back and forth to other boards, time just simply doesn't allow it. I've tried Horror boards, Tellie Boards, Britcom Boards but they all seem to fall by the wayside because of my work, hometime and this board. Please don't take it in offense because I don't join. I just don't have the time.

Very well said Tids. .
Thanks. ;) My post above was to point out the good and bad of message boards whether AYBS? related or not. Sorry if "some people" didn't understand the message. It's hard work and of course like any other "business venture" there are aggravations and hurdles but also much fulfillment. Joy Behar said recently "The minute you have an opinion, you're hated". My aim was not to discourage but to ENCOURAGE. But what kind of Admin would I be not to point out the dark side!? I've got lots of other interests besides AYBS? and participate on other boards "out there". I've seen more crap than a public loo on some poorly run boards. On a Lucy board I belong to, one member was STEALING all my threads verbatim and slapping them up on her board complete with the "smilies" that are unique to that board. I was like..umm...get your own ideas much?? So yeah...it's fun and it's frustrating too. Just like I said "the nature of the beast". One thing I will not stand for....ever....is anyone coming here, using this board to their own advantage and then rudely and unnecessarily dissing it publically. That's called bad manners and it's not tolerated on my beat. Nuff said!!
