(did this on AYBS so thought why not here)
Think of an episode title AYBSA/GaF that you would have liked to see.
Provide an title with a description....
example:
Laryngitis :
The entire staff is relieved with Mr. Moulterd comes down with Laryngitis but
their relief is short lived when each find they need him more than they thought.
Wedding Bells:
Mavis finally traps Mr. Humphries into popping the question....
Mrs. Slocombe is jealous but has to avoid Mr. Moulterd's advances. Miss Brahms tries to avert Captain Peacocks
attentions away from Miss Lovelock.
Malcom crashes the wedding and Mr. Humphries is last seen hot-footing
it over hill and dale.
(you can make up your own version)
Moulterd in Charge:
Beset by a virus, the whole staff takes to bed...in order to keep the
Inn solvent Mr. Moulterd is left in charge and brings in all his cronies from
Tender Bottom to help out.
Love is in the Air:
Rumbold comes up with an idea to make Millstone Manor a second honeymoon spot for romantic minded senior couples....with strange effects on the staff. Randy Peacock has to take a back seat when Mr. Rumbold
tries his charm on Miss Brahms....then Mrs. Slocombe, then Mavis then
Miss Lovelock......

Humphries Sees Sense
Humphries gives up the ridiculous "Mavis" thing and realizes that the American Mr. Conklin was a good thing so he makes hay while he can and flies over to the states to be with him. They come back to the Manor as "Husband and Husband" and Mr. Conklin back the Manor financially.

Here's one I think would have been jolly good!
THe Old Order Returns:
Many of the former staff of Grace Bros. gets wind of the Grace Bros Retirement plan and charter a bus and show up all at once.
They want a piece of the action. So the MM staff have a quick conflab
and decide to let them in.
Mr. Mash and Mr. Harman take over the outside work, helping Mr. Moulterd. Suddenly, there are a lot of earthy-type pranks being pulled.
Mr. Harman can be called to butle on occasion.
Mr. Lucas helps out in the kitchen and casts his eye at Mavis, when not in the kitchen he's checking out Miss Lovelock....
Mr. Thorpe is smitten with Miss Bakewell(Penny Irving) and
and must tell his secretary Miss...er....PRESCOTT! that she's out of a job.
Miss Prescott is taken in by Celia, the magistrate that has the hots for Miss
Brahms.
Malcom show up to have a go at Mavis one last time, but ends up
falling for Miss Hurst.
Miss Belfridge puts an end to Captain Peacock lusting after Miss Lovelock.
SLocombe and Brahms become the Manageresses of cleaning and cooking staff...
Mr. Tebbs is too feeble to work, but has no trouble
getting around in his wheelchair , bossing everyone around.
Spooner shows up later and rescues Miss uh...PRESCOTT from Celia.
Mr. Grainger is no longer with us, but there is a rumor that the whatever it is that roams the halls at night has been replaced by Mr. Grainger's ghost.
AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.........aaaaaaaaahhhhh!
feel free to embellish or contradict or replace with your own version.

What a delightful idea for a thread!
I think there'd have been scope for a good old-fashioned sitcom "battle of the sexes" episode.
Why was it that Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms were automatically assigned chambermaid duties? <sniff>
So we could instigate a staff-rotation plan. There'd be arguments. Captain Peacock and Mr Rumbold would refuse, point blank, to don a pinny and get scrubbing -- until Mavis decides to punish their lack of team spirit by refusing to cook for them any more.
Mrs Slocombe, it turns out, is the only member of staff capable of 'taming' the ride-on lawnmower.
With ongoing conflict regarding who's best at the job of 'manager', it's decided to ask the party booked in for the weekend to rate the various performances (which will be reassigned over the three-day stay).
So then we get Peacock and Rumbold trying to bribe the guests into rating their "managerial" performance most highly. We get them each trying to sabotage the other. And of course the winner, according to the visitors, is Mr Humphries, who was just filling in for the evening of the guests' arrival ...
I also always fancied the idea of the Village Fayre episode.
Mavis's kissing booth (and the various ways she tries to avoid being alone with Malcolm inside).
Mrs Slocombe's homemade toiletries being the source of various nefarious pranks by the terrible twin scallywags of Great Tender -- bathsalts dumped into the dunk-tank in copious quantities ... liquid soap being spread over the bouncy castle just before the arrival of the perfectly-uniformed children of St Winifred's award winning brass marching band ... fill-in-your-own-nefarious-prank.
Miss Lovelock offering to supervise pony-rides, only to discover that the kids all want a go on her motorbike instead, which is well and good until she returns from one little round trip about the village to discover her 50p-paying charge has somehow vanished ...
Mr Moulterd behaving very badly after visiting the all-you-can-drink Scrumpy promotion ...
Okay, I'm off to think of other episodes, now. Cheers for the idea, frankdicer!

It was, in fact, a "let's get past these antiquated sexual stereotypes" sniff. Aristocratic? As a northern working class woman, I take exception to that!

Having said that, three generations back I had family in service. So it isn't unthinkable ...

I figured that it was. It just occurred to me that the art of sniffing is pretty well lost
in the USA. British seem to have a better grasp of it.
And of course, (in my limited view of the world) the aristocracy seem to have it down pat...
That is to what I was referring....that your sniff was down pat!
sorry if that was a left handed compliment. I just meant you had got it
completely right.
BTW, Hyacinth Bucket (Keeping Up Appearances) will be jealous of your lineage

The best sniff I ever heard did indeed come from an aristocrat. That is to say, an actor playing an aristocrat. Edward Petherbridge's Lord Peter Wimsey could sniff with the best of them.
And you're right about Hyacinth. Not only did I have family in service, but they were in service to royalty. Read em and weep, Mrs Bucket!
I should add, for the record, that my earlier comment was meant entirely frivolously. I am reasonably convinced that not one single drop of noble blood runs through my veins.
I mean. Anti-monarchist as I am, I'd be offended by the very thought ...

Maybe you have the same expression as we do over here....
to wit: You're 4 billionth in line for the throne of England?
or some variation of that.

More epis I'd like to see:
That's LoveLOCK to you!
It comes to light in the terms of Mr. Grace's will that Jessica Lovelock is more
than just a pretty face...She is in fact to take over from Mr. Thorpe of
T, T and T as Mr. Thorpe is soon to retire. She announces her intention of selling the place and turning the staff out. The staff is in a tizzy trying to
figure out a way to ingratiate themselves to her. It turns out that all she wants to do is get back to the "big city" and in the end gives control back
to Mr. Thorpe who has decided retirement wasn't ready for him yet.
Yes Jessica moves away, but retains the grooms quarters and space for
her horses as she pops back in from time to time on Holiday.
Bang a Gong!
Oh, oh! Fire. Mr. Humphries pipe smoking in an comfy chair accidentally starts a fire in the main hall. The damage is minimal but the staff will
have to live somewhere else for awhile...They cancel all their bookings and head out into the TenderBottom area to see where they can stay.
and meet a host of TenderBottomites. TUrns out all available rooms are
already rented because of the big TenderBottom Formula 1 race that has come to the village (boy talk about fiction). So they end up camping on the Manor's grounds.
Guess who get in with whom. as a fruit basket upset of swapping bed partners ensues because all the tents look exactly alike and are arrayed in
a circle.
A man for Mavis!
WCH is having trouble w/ Mavis. She has decided that if he won't marry her then she'll just start up with other men in the area....unbeknownst to
Mr. Humphries it is a scheme to make him jealous. WCF decides he can
play the field too and surprisingly all three of the other Manor women make a play for W. Clay! Meanwhile, Mavis is having to really fight off the locals as well. In the end, they decide that it was better just sleeping together.
Mrs. Slocombe again...
Mr. Slocombe makes another visit to MMH and this time re-acquaints himself with Mrs. Slocombe....romance is in the air but is it genuine or what? He asks her to marry him again, but she finally decides no.
She is finally free to put an end to that part of her past. sniff...sniff.
Daddy Peacock
Captain Peacock gets hit with triple paternity suits from 3 women from
GT and TB. Has he been dallying again? He claims innocence but with his
reputation.....his most vocal opponent is Ms. Lovelock as she has started to think of him as hers. Turns out to be a false alarm as Captain Stephen Peacock has been confused with Steven Peacock.
Shirley expains it all!
Tired of her status as 5th in the pecking order, Miss Brahms tries
to gain some respect and esteem by thinking up some hairbrained schemes to make money for MMH. All fail miserably, but doing so, the
rest of the staff come to realize how much she means to their little troop and Miss Brahms discovers that sometimes its just best being yourself....aaaah.

Still another Epi
Millstone Manor goes Hollywood!
A movie is being made by Hollywood in Great Tender. Because the Manor
has the grandest accommodations around, the STARS are booked into MMH.
The staff is delighted witht the prospect of living in close quarters with
some big Hollywood stars.... As it happens, the stars are a bit demanding
not to mention second rate as the Hollywood is Hollywood, West Virginia
not California. In the end, the movie is not a success and closes done almost
before it starts, much to the relief of the staff.
And another!
Maurice makes his move!
Enflamed by the ever present Mrs. Slocombe, Mr. Moulterd tries to clean
up his act and starts dressing a bit more clean, tidy and smart.
He works on his looks and spends a bit of money to buy a car to
drive Mrs. Slocombe around in.
Betty is reluctant at first, but as he is the only man around showing an interest she decides to give him a go....They have a couple of good times
out and about until Mrs. Slocombe wants to drive his car....
1 good crash later and Mr. Moulterd is back to his old crusty self.
Romance over! Friends now???

The Past Comes a Calling: Mr Humphries hasn't been replying to his letters from his mother so she decides to send a visitor to check up on him- one they know very well. Mr Lucas. (Who has somehow managed to keep in touch with Mr Humphries mother and not the rest of the staff) although the only one who knows he's here is Miss Brahms who when every time she tries to tell someone something else happens. Causing Mr Humphries to faint in shock in the end.
Or something like that.

I'm rubbish at this sort of thing-so you'll all have to use your own imaginations  but I'd have loved there to have been a Christmas special, with The Three Wise Men aka Jug Ears, W.C. and Captain Peacock bringing tacky gifts for the new born baby-in other words, the offspring of Young Mr Grace/Old Mr Grace-or their grandkiddy. I think that could have been a cute time to bring in the "missing" staff members.

I like the idea !!!! Sort of like "The Birth Of Christ" done up at Christmas time for the Manor's customers. Mavis playing Mary, Slocmbe playing a shepard with a beard, Malcolme playing Joseph (and have him and Mavis arguing the whole time) Humphries playing the Angel, Peacock playing Herrod....

We all have our opinions of course, but that's an interesting comment to make in these forums on this fansite. So maybe we'll ask you to expound on your comment. Like David said, without AYBS? there is no G&F. Many people feel "the other way around" about the series' continuation "Grace and Favor". So...let's hear more from you on this. AYBS developed characters that were bigger than the story line of the show. The story line was okay, nothing great, but it did introduce us the the shows personalities. The cast of AYBS honed there acting while doing AYBS, the writers improved. Then G&F! Perfect! People don't like change, but it happens, that's a fact! Retirement is what we are all working for, same with the characters of AYBS! There is just so much to working in a store, where life, living, which includes retirement is so much more. This one I have always dreamed of being created:
The Junior Returns
Booked into the manor for the weekend is a wealthy London businessman and his top executives. The staff lines up to greet their guests, and the first person who walks in is no other than Mr. Lucas! Turns out after leaving Grace Bros. he buckeled down and made something of himself. Different story lines include: Miss Brahms finally going after Mr. Lucas because now he has lots of "lolley"; the usual banter between him and Mrs. Slocombe continues; he makes unreasonable and hilarious requests of Mr. Rumbold and Capt. Peacock just to get back for the years of torture and degredation they put him through at Grace Bros,; and the last storyline, Mr. Lucas decides to make a play at Mavis (thinking he could get somewhere since she is a simple country girl). She rejects all of his advances fiercly, always coming back with some innuendo with Mr. Humphries, which leads to him and Mr. Lucas continuing to chatter like they did in the store.
I think something like this could have been hilarious!

I always like to hear the wide range of opinions on the show, and it's always interesting to find people who strongly loved one aspect and hated another. You're definitely in the minority though--most people that I've come across were less fond of G&F than AYBS because they didn't like the change. They preferred the comforting routine of the store and the antics, and to them it was quite a shock to see them get out and about in the "real world". Most of those same people thought the movie blew chunks too. Me personally, I liked seeing the different side of the characters and watching them develop (you're right there--they were more developed in G&F). Would I call it superior to AYBS though? IMO, no...each has its own merits and one is not inferior to the other--I do like AYBS more, but that doesn't mean I dislike G&F
I do have to agree with Tids: you did pick a funny place to post "AYBS is crap". Not that I'll ban you for that opinion, heavens no: if you're willing to share your side of the story, I think it could be a very entertaining and enlightening discussion indeed!
But I had to laugh: saying "AYBS is crap" on a minki.net site is like going to Yankee Stadium and announcing that the Yankees suck: sure, they'll still let you in to watch the game, but boy did you paint a big bulls-eye on your back :)

Have Mr. Lucas, running {maybe even owning it} the Inn and being a couple with Miss Lovelock. {or another lady}.

I would have loved to see an episode where the ghost of Mr. Grace comes back to haunt the manor. The workers have to discover why he has come back and what he is looking for as his "unfinished business".
Imagine the cast finding clues to some hidden treasure that Mr. Grace neglected to mention in his will. It would end up with the cast finding out that treasure isn't what they were expecting to find.

A Hunting We Will Go
The cast is challenged by the locals to a hunting contest to see who can bag the most game in one day.
Can you just see Mrs. Slocombe, Mr. Humphries, and Miss Brahms trapsing through the dirty woods after game?
And Humphries bringing in the local college rugby team to the manor and winning the prize !!!!

Face the Fire: Mr. Humphries decides he must face his fears (w/ Malcom ) and so
heads down a dark lane to meet the rough lads. He does and after some grand posturing and a faux tussle, he and Malcom come to an agreement. Over drinks at the pub,
Malcom asks Humpy (as he is called now) to help him be more of a gentlemen and in turn
Malcom will help Humpy be more manly. Conversation turns to Mavis and the two
beligerents, decide they can get along enough to be friendly and that they should share Mavis.
Of course it all falls apart when Mavis finds out what the two are suggesting.

Next scene ....
Mavis gets to the manor late after caring for a sick aunt from the next village. She enters her room and turns on the lights where she discovers Humpy and Malcom in bed together ... starkers. Mavis lets out a gasp when the two sleeping lads open their eyes and Malcom looks straight at her and says "I'm Free !!!"

Just saw this old thread, but I wasn't posting when it first started...
It was never mentioned how long Yng. Mr. Grace owned Millstone Manor before he kicked the bucket. Assuming he owned it for a long time, or visited it a long time ago and then bought it later to re-kindle the memories, an interesting re-tread of a story would be:
Mrs. Slocumbe find an old diary stashed in the Manor house. In it is detailed a tryst between a young YMG and a dairygirl. When the dairygirl finds herself pregnant, YMG bolts back to the city leaving her to marry the only keen man available - Mr. Moulterd. The kind and understanding Moulterd raises the daughter as his own, not knowing the identity of the true father, and keeps the promise to never divulge his wife's indiscretion. And as the years pass, he loves Mavis so much he doesn't wish to sully her memories of her mother.
The staff, however, are in a dilemna. Do they tell Mavis the truth? Doing so would make her the rightful heir to the remaining Grace fortune. It could put them out on the street! Rumbold and Peacock vote to keep the diary a secret. Miss Brahms doesn't want to loose the free room and board. Mrs. Slocumbe can't get over the idea that Mavis is truly of a higher station.
But motivated in a spirit of justice after seeing Mavis so poorly treated by Miss Lovelock, they elect Mr. Humphries to break the news to Mavis. After a long and humorous discussion out in the barn where Mr. Humphries fails to convince Mavis of the impossible sounding truth, he gives up. After he walks away, a tender-hearted Morris sets her down and confirms the truth.
"You've been fair farmhand, me girl! But you ain't really me girl. I loved you as I love ol' Daisy here." (meaning the cow) "But 'tis time you left me and claimed yer own. You're a Lady now..." he says waliking away in tears.
Does she leave her Moulterd life behind? Does she turn the staff out? Does she become Lady of the Manor? Her secret is out, life can't go back to normal. The staff waits on pins and needles.
Later that night in bed, she and Mr. Humphries... write a new last page in the diary. It is in the form of a confession by Mrs. Moulterd claiming the previous pages were a fictional story written to pass the time. The next morning all is back to normal. Mr. Moulterd however knows the truth, and in another private moment asks her why she passed up her chance to move up in the world. She replies...
"You may not be my farther, but you're me da'. I'd never leave you! Now get back to work or I'll give you da strap!"

This may sound silly but I like the idea of it.
Millstone Manor is currently in need of some business due to no one coming for the season since Mr Rumbold accidentily spent all the advertisement money on an ad in a publication group which was a scam.
Thankfully, in this slow time at Millstone Manor Mr Humphries contacts Mr Lucas and tells him that its probably a good time to catch up....little does anybody know, Mr Lucas has won the pools and won over 2 million dollars.
On the morning he is due to arrive the staff at MSM notice a beautiful Bentley being driven up the driveway and towards the manor. The car stops and out of the drivers seat steps out none other than Mr Harmon dressed better than ever in a drivers uniform. He goes to the back seat door, opens it and out steps Mr Lucas in the most handsome and expensive suit any of the staff has ever seen.
The staff gather around Mr Lucas and exchange hellos all the while being shocked and incredibly jealous. At first Mr Lucas acts snobbish and demands they take his suitcases inside...but then his cheeky grin appears and he gives Mr Humphries a big hug and smile. He then goes onto giving everyone else a hug whilst giving them a snide aside comment. He comments on Captain Peacocks lack of hair, Mr Rumbolds ears looking as bad as ever, Mr Humphries' and Mavis holding hands, and then proceeds to hug Mrs slocombe (comments on her bigger behind) and Miss Brahms (pinches her bum for which he gets a jokeing slap) and then proceeds to charm Miss Lovelock who is both disgusted and yet intrigued by him.
From here, everyone goes inside and sits, eats, drinks and reminisce about the old days. It is then that Mr Lucas informs the staff that he has spoken to Mr Thorpe and the Trust and has acquired the Manor and all its land. Everyone is shocked again and begin to see possible advantages to not only having Mr Lucas around but also his newly acquired riches. *Episode ends*
From here, it sets off chain reaction of events and motives for the rest of the season such as Mr Lucas charming Miss Lovelock much to the anger of Capt Peacock. Miss Brahms also has ideas, since she hasnt married or had anyone available and rich in her life, she sets out with Capt Peacocks help, to get Mr Lucas and his money to herself. So together Capt Peacock and Miss Brahms form a 'sabotage duo' to destroy any possiblity for Miss Lovelock and Mr Lucas being together so that Brahms and Lucas, and Peacock and Lovelock can be together. Of course zany and hilarious schemes and situations ensue.(Little does Brahms realise that, Lucas is flirting with Lovelock to make her jealous, and she realises eventually through many episodes that she ACTUALLY loves Mr Lucas and they finally 'get it together').
Throughout the season Mr Harmon and Mr Moulterd become friends and Harmon begins to help Moulterd in his love for Mrs Slocombe for which she is slowly succumbing to.
Mr Humphries and Mavis start getting closer together with Mr Humphries also being a little bit distant because he's not sure how he feels anymore especially since a dashing farmhand has joined the staff and is being 'very nice' to both Mavis and Mr humphries, plus with Malcomb on his tail, will Mr Humphries give into Mavis innocent charm and will they walk down the aisle?
And finally with all the stuff going on and his total loss of control Mr Rumbold struggles to maintain order and his authority over the staff as they pursue each other, gain more friends, problems and reputation from the village and the incoming guests which the now rich Mr Lucas has advised people should spend their holiday.
I like this idea because it has a love/chaotic feel to it. Plus with all the old gang together there will be sparks and fires between everyone as they learn where their new roles and affections lie.

I like the Brahms/Peacock sabotage duo theme! That would have worked.
Somehow I just can't envision Harman there as his chauffer. It would be easier for me to imagine Harman, having stashed and invested all his overtime pay, to be the rich one looking to buy a room as a permanent resident. Then he could have ordered Peacock around as the guess and told him to get off the floor!
Mr. Lucas alsways struck me as someone who would have tried to pass himself off as rich, but was actually in financial dire straights. Somehow I see him ending up working as Mr. Moulterds assistant! I can hear him say, "I need to feed the slop to the pigs before Mr. Moulterd gives me the strap!" http://www.minki.net/aybsforum/picture.php?albumid=6&pictureid=213

This could have run to a couple of episodes The supernatural events are really a rift in the space/time continuum. During a particularly violent storm the rift rips wide open and the Red Dwarf crew comes through. Lister would say something like "Kryten, where the smeg are we?" They calculate that they won't be able to return to their own time for a couple of days, so the crew has no choice but to bunk up at the Manor. It's two-way culture shock as the crew has to adjust to late 20th century life, and the staff is confused by the futuristic technology. Kryten helps Mr Moulterd in the fields, dramatically increasing productivity. Lister and Rimmer try their charms on Mavis and Miss Lovelock, neither of whom are impressed. Cat tries to put the moves on Mrs Slocombe's pussy, much to her annoyance "That Cat won't leave my pussy alone!" Another fluctuation bring Ace Rimmer through the rift. He is more popular with the staff, particularly with the ladies. Peacock tries to impress him with tales of his own military prowess, but Ace doesn't buy it. He ingratiates himself to Mr Humphries when he takes a Starbug and buzzes the Heathcliff farm. Ace eventually leads the crew back through the rift. The staff has a good laugh and makes some extra money as UFO mania sweeps the area.

With the untimely death of Mr Moulterd, the manor needs a new farm manager. Applying for the post is a distinguished older gentleman. Before he can introduce himself, Mavis recognizes him as her uncle Maxwell, who she hasn't seen in years. Maxwell is a recently retired military officer with a distinguished career, who has decided to return to his home village. With no other suitible applicants (maybe a Mr Cleghampton), Max gets the job, although the staff wonders if he is really up to it. But once he's out of his uniform, and into his work gear, he's a virtual double for his older brother. Peacock is impressed with his military credentials, but Max spots him as a phony. And it turns out that Mrs Slocombe had aquaintenceship with more than one Moulterd while a landgirl in Tiverton.

Interesting idea. Except once you floated the idea of a Mr. Cleghampton, I immediately thought of Mrs. Clegghampton and her son (the one Morris called to see if she could get her leg around that cello thing). They could be introduced as distant cousins -- just close enough for the son to be a creepy yet legal suitor for Mavis. It might arouse some odd jealosy in Mr. Humphries!
For that matter, why not have Malcomb Heathcliff be the only applicant? It would be an easy way to have him keep bumping into Mr, Humphries for laughs and Mavis could hold her own against him.

We learn that Maxwell Moulterd has been married and divorced. He has two children, a son Marcus, who is an officer in the S.A.S, and a daughter Marina, a military nurse. They both manage to get leave at the same time and come visit their father at the Manor. Marcus is an expert with both motorcycles and horses, earning the attention of Miss Lovelock. Miss Lovelock also tries to get Marcus to talk about his adventures, but he is reluctant. Nonetheless, the situation between Marcus and Jessica causes Capt. Peacock to act like a bigger fool than normal. Meanwhile Marina mentions having visited two mentors of hers, Patricia (Astley), and Vivianne (Johnson Hurley). She also competes with her cousin Mavis for the attention of Mr Humphries. She buys him a knobbly pipe, and attempts to seduce him with music from an album by that well known singer Burt Spooner, particularly with the song "Chanson D'Amor"

But Maxwell turns out to be a good fit for the position of manager. He cuts an impressive figure in formal clothes, and he soon has the Manor running at the peak of efficiency. I think if Rumbold tried to slit his wrist, he'd end up shaving his eyebrows. I think maxwell would only be too eager to return to the farm, prefering an outdoor life. Serving under Rumbold is no big deal to him, he's served under idiots before.

A businessman named Martin Moulson visits the Manor to make arrangements for a possible booking. Capt Peacock and Mr Rumbold recognize him as and international businessman, whereas Maxwell Moulterd recgonizes him as his younger brother, whose real name is Martin Moulterd. Maxwell has not seen or heard from him in years, and Mavis has never met him, and has only heard about him. Martin reveals that while he had originally intended to book a holiday, things have changed. His company was bought out, and he's been made redundant. There is also some implication that Martin's been involved in some dodgy activities, although nothing was proven. With no other options he eagerly accepts a job at the Manor, until he finds out it is assisting Maxwell in the fields. He's even more of a fish out of water than the staff; Maxwell frequently reprimands him, and enjoys putting his shady, arrogant brother in his place. Martin remembers Mrs Slocombe from Tiverton, remembering that he rode her three wheeler. However he soon gets on her bad side when he asks if she knows a friend of his, Cecil G Slocombe. Miss Brahms is interested when Martin convinces her that he still has some lolly tucked away.

Maxwell Moulterd secures permission to have a Moulterd family reunion at the Manor. The Staff is somewhat reluctant, but agrees. In addition to Mavis, Maxwell, and Martin, Maxwell's son Marcus and daughter Marina return to the Manor. Joining them is Martin's children from his at least three wives. At the same time, seemingly unrelated, there is a request for a booking from Marianna Mallard, who the staff recognizes as a famous actress. Maxwell cryptically tells them that there will be no conflict, and having such a famous actress will be good publicity for the Manor. The reunion is in full swing when Marianna makes a grand entrance. Everyone is star-struck except for Maxwell and Martin, who greet her as "Mary" It is revealed that the award winning actress Marianna Mallard's real name is Mary Moulterd, younger sister of Maxwell and the late Maurice, and older sister of Martin. Mavis only knew that her father had a sister, but had no idea who she was. After meeting the Staff, Marianna says that they resemble actors that she knows, and I don't think I need to mention who.

Note - You'll have to be a fan of "Legend of the Seeker to understand this post
The Manor gets a mystereous booking from a Mr Rahl for a party of four. One night during a storm, the supernatural events at the Manor coincide with the tear in the veil of the Underworld, and through the breach come Richard Cypher, Kahlan Amnell, Zeddicus Zul Zorander, and Cara the Mord Sith. The Staff is totally at a loss, and the Seeker and co. are confused by this strange world. Zedd figures out that Darken Rahl used the confluence of supernatural events to send them into this "other world". Zedd tries to figure a way back to their own world, while the others have no choice but to stay at the Manor. Captain Peacock tried his charms on Cara, but instead gets the business end of her Agiel. Seeing the effect Miss Brahms said she could have done with one of those in Catford. Mrs Slocombe says they could've used one at Grace Bros. Richard helps Maxwell Moulterd in the fields, Kahlan helps Mavis in the kitchen, and Cara has some private sessions with Mavis. Meanwhile Malcolm Heathcliff makes good on his threat to come after Mr Humphries with a bunch of rough lads. They are fought off by Richard and co, and Maxwell Moulterd. Kahlan Confesses Malcolm and orders him to leave Mr Humphries alone. Eventually Zedd figures out a way to get back to their own world. Before they leave, Zedd gives Maxwell a potion that will help the crops, and Cara gives Mavis a bundel, and tell her she knows what to do. Later that night, Mavis enters the bedroom with her hair braided, and wearing the red Mord Sith uniform
Mavis: You will call me Mistress. I will give commands, and you will obey them.
Mr Humphries: Oh, That'll be nice!
Malcolms Confession wears off when Kahlan leaves.

Mr Franco returns to the Manor for another booking (see my previous post on the subject). Captain Peacock has no better luck with the Divas, except for Mae Young. Hornswoggle make a nuicence of himself, but not nearly as much of a nuicense as Vicki Guerrero with her continual "Excuse Me"s. Goldust has everyone except Mr Humphries confused. Meanwhile Malcolm Heathcliff makes another threat to come after Mr Humphries. Having taken a liking to Mr Humphries, the Superstars take him under their wings and prepare "Hugger" Humphries to take on Malcolm. Malcom and his gang try to waylay Mr Humphries, but unfortunately for them, it is while he is giving cart rides to the superstars. They make quick work of Malcolms gang, leaving Malcolm for Mr Humphries. Mr Humphries declares "You want some, Come get some!" Malcolm rushes in, and is speared by Mr Humphries. Malcolm falls onto a fence and WCH does a 619. Malcolm is reeling and get some Sweet Chin Music, followed by an RKO. Finally on the ground, Mr Humphries delivers a Five Knuckle Shuffle. As Malcolm is carried away, WCH does the DX Chop. Back at the Manor, the Superstars present Mr Humphries with replicas of all three World title belts, and The Great Khali does a Kiss Cam with both Miss Brahms and Mrs Slocombe. Then the Chairman arrives and declares that from now on he wants to be called Young Mr McMahon. That night in bed, Mavis does the Melina Split, indictating that Mr Humphries wasn't the only one taking lessons.

It's not really a full plot, but as a subplot I've always imaged that guy who got friendly with Miss Brahms (put his hands on her false pockets in the nightclub) comes into the store and again tries to get fresh. Miss Brahms starts telling him off, but he is not easily dissuaded. Captain Peacock starts intervening, but backs off in the face of a physical threat. Mr. Lucas once again claims his vow not to harm any living thing. Mr Humphries checks out the guy's bod and declares he wouldn't object if the guy got fresh with him. Mrs. Slocombe returns to the floor (after being called away to accounts) and slugs him with her purse whereafter he leaves. Mr. Harmon watches the proceedings with amusement. Of course, in the recounting of the proceedings to Mr. Rumbold he gets everything mixed up while trying to write it down.

There were a couple of mentions of the history of the Manor. I think they could have made several episodes about that. They could start with Hubert the Unready (Capt Peacock) and his child bride Gwendolyn (Mavis). Hubert could brag about his service under William the Conqueror, which would be just as believable as Capt Peacock's WW2 service. Another episode would have Peacock and Miss Lovelock reprising their roles as Wilfred Earl of Millstone and Leonora his wife's younger sister. Mrs Slocombe could be the wife. After shooting Wilfred and Leonora, she would place her recently deceased cat Tiddleth in the wall. They could also do when Young Mr Grace purchased the Manor. Mr Humphries would be a younger YMG, and Malcolm Heathcliff would be a younger Maurice Moulterd.

This coincides with Mavis telling them about a local legend about Little People living in out of the way areas. Natually, Capt Peacock scoffs at all this, but even he is forced to admit the possibility when he catches a glimpse of the Little People. Further investigation leads to a startling conclusion; The Lord of the Rings was real, Millstone Manor and Great Tender are in what used to be the Shire, and the Little People are a relic population of Hobbits

In a two part episode, the Staff is on edge when Cecil G Slocombe books another stay at the Manor. This time, he will be bringing his wife. Mrs Slocombe is seething about the "young bimbo", while the rest of the staff is curious. There is no clue who it is, as the booking merely says "Mr and Mrs". When they finnaly arrive, they're are all shocked to find the the new Mrs Slocombe is actually the former Miss Belfridge. Mrs Slocombe is even more seething and does whatever she can to avoid them. She also convinces Maxwell Moulterd to pretend that they are in a relationship, to which Maxwell agrees. Capt Peacock is also seething that his former fling is now married to a richer man. He acts like an even bigger fool toward Miss Lovelock. The former Miss Belfridge gives no indication that she cares. Then Cecil reveals the truth; that during his first stay, he knew that it was Betty all along, and knew he couldn't buy the Manor, but decided to let them have their fun, because deep down he knew he treated Mrs Slocombe wrong. He assures them that this time he is merely on a working vacation and has no intention of trying to by the Manor. He later tells them that his assistant R.J. will be stopping by. Part two begins with the arrival of R.J. The Staff are shocked to find out that R. J. is in fact Richard James (Dick) Lucas. Lucas sits back and enjoys the fact that he is now being served by his former superiors. Mrs Slocombe braces for the snarky comments that never come. The Mr Thorpe and Miss Prescott arrive with some more matters about the Pension. Mr Lucas hits it off with Miss Prescott. Old Mr Humphries puts Wilberforce in touch with his half brother, named James. and they arrange a visit at the Manor. When the day comes, WCH is nervous; he has no idea what his brother is like. They are startled when they hear a motorcycle roar up to the front of the Manor, and since Miss Lovelock is there with them, they know it is not her. They go outside to find the rider just taking off his helmet. They are shocked to see that James is a physical double for Wilberforce. But that is where the resemblance ends. He talks with a deeper voice and walks with a swagger. He also reveals that his full name is Jesse James Humphries. He rides his motorcycle all over the area, sometimes with Miss Lovelock, and Mavis. Peacock is jealous and acts like a bigger fool than normal. Suprising even himself, Mr Humphries is also jealous. He wonders if he is losing Mavis, and tries to adopt some of James' mannerisms. Despite his bad boy ways, James takes a liking to his long lost brother. When Malcom Heathcliff mistakes James for Wilberforce, James makes him painfully regret it. James eventually rides off, promising to be in touch. Mavis says that while riding with James was fun, she will always prefer Wilberforce, and that he should never change.

Rumbold is still bald, and baby Slocombe enjoys playing with Tiddles who has reverted to kitten form, or as baby Betty says is a "little pussy". While Captain Peacock is out for a ride with Miss Lovelock, a young woman named Stephanie Lambert comes to the Manor to finalize plans for a booking for her company. When the Capt. returns, he is stunned speechless. A snarky comment from Stephanie reveals a shocking truth: Stephanie is the daughter Captain Peacock never mentioned. During the AYBS years she was away at various schools, so she was "out of sight, out of mind". As an added twist, one of her schoolmates was Miss Lovelock. In the interveneing years, Stephanie has done well for herself. The late Mrs Peacock was a woman of some means (the house was in her name "A Personal Problem"). When she died, she left most of her assets (after taxes) to Stephanie, rather than the philandering Captain. Stephanie used the money to start her own company. She is bitter about the way her mother was treated, that is why there had been no contact up till now. She is using her mother's maiden name. She didn't even know Peacock was at the Manor. Peacock makes plenty of excuses. Things are tense at first, but gradually, things warm up. At the end, they promise to keep in touch. As a final twist, Stephanie gets a call on her mobile from one of her business associates, someone named Lucas.

It was implied in "The Hero" that YMG was a boxing fan. Among the portraits in the Manor is one of an 18th century boxer named "Gentleman" Richard Humphies. The Staff wonders if he was a relation of Mr Humphries, but WCH doesn't know. But that's the least of his problems. He has received yet another challenge from Malcolm Heathcliff. Mr Humphries contemplates leaving the Manor, perhaps to join his father, the Seaman. That night Mr Humphries has a dream where Gentleman Humphries, or Dick, as he wants to be called, visits him. Gentleman Dick tells WCH that he shouldn't run, and instead he should face Malcolm head on. WCH protests saying he can't box. Gentleman Dick insists telling WCH that when the time comes, he'll know what to do. The next morning Mr Humphries goes off the face Malcolm, despite the pleas of the rest of the Staff. The arrogant Malcolm declares that he didn't even think Mr Humphries would show up, and they should just get it over with, it won't last long. Malcolm and everyone else is in for a shock. Mr Humphries wades in with a skill that the wild brawling Malcolm can't match. Mr Humphries finishes Malcolm off with a cross-buttock throw, which wrestling fans will recognize as something similar to a suplex, which was legal in Gentleman Dick's day. Mr Humphries walks away, leaving Malcolm flat on his back semi-conscious, and everybody else stunned. Later they will confess that during the fight, overlaid on Mr Humphries and guiding his blows, was the faint form of another man, dressed in the breeches and boots of an old time boxer. They conclude that as strange as it may seem, the spirit of Gentleman Dick Humphries came back from the dead to aid WCH.

The Manor gets a book from a man calling himself "Mr Aaron" He is a polite guest who generally keeps to himself. He talks with a Southern (American) accent and has a tendency to gyrate his hips. He mentions that he is divorced, and has a daughter that he hasn't seen in many years. When he checks out, he says goodbye to the Staff by saying "Thank you, thank you very much." Then he leaves the building, leaving the Staff wondering just who he really was.

For background, see my previous posts "Young Mr Moulterd", "Younger Mr Moulterd", and "Neck Deep In Moulterds"
The tension between the two surivng Moulterd brothers Maxwell and Martin has eased somewhat. Maxwell admits that while Martin is adequate on the farm; he also worked there in his youth, Martin's real talent is in business. To that end, he is given the post of Assistant Manager, backing up the less than competant Rumbold. For his part, Martin declares that contrary to what anyone thought, he never looked down on Maurice and Maxwell. And looking at from a certai point of view, they were all senior executives of a sort; Maurice as the Farm Manager, Maxwell as an Army Colonel, and now Farm Manager, and Martin as a businessman. As for their sister, she's a whole seperate issue.
As Assistant Manager, Martin tries to set the Staff right. He tells them that they should not just think of themselves as Staff, but as the Owners. They were all Young Mr Grace. The way they received the Manor is not too different from the way YMG received the store from Uncle Mr Grace Senior. Veiwing it from that angle, the work wouldn't seem like such drudgery. Martain adds that YMG was his idol, and he would occasionally call on him for advice. When Miss Lovelock makes a condecending remark, Martin shoots her down by telling her that she should count herself fortunate. While Mr Grace saw her abilities, others would not have hired her as a housemaid. This raises Martin's esteem in the eyes of the Staff.

On a trp to England, Maxwell Sheffield brings his famil to stay at the Manor. Maxwell has fond memories; he remembers how he used to buy his suits at Grace Brothers, (Niles adds so did Miss Babcock) and spent several vacations at the Manor. He reveals that his memories are one of the reasons why his younger daughter is named Gracie.
Being an afficianado of the theater, Mr Humphries has heard of Mr Sheffield, and tactfully adds that he is much better than Andrew Lloyd Weber. Captain Peacock flirts with the women, but has his usual success; Maggie thinks he's too old, Fran's voice is too much for even him, and Miss Babcock forms a friendship with Miss Lovelock. Fran wants to know who does Mrs Slocombe's hair, and they end up having conversations about hair and makeup. Niles is thrilled that for once he doesn't have to be of constant service, but can't resist taking jabs at Miss Babcock. Maggie talks about all the handsome farm hands she's seen, Brighton feels trapped, and Gracie likes roaming the farm and seeing the animals. Taging along are Sylvia, Yetta, and the unseen Morty. The Staff wonder if they have enough food to satisfy Sylvia's appitite. Yetta remembers having a fling with someone named Grace, which she thought was a strange name for a man, leaving open the possibility that Sylvia could be a long lost Grace heir.
Mr Sheffield's arrival at the Manor was well timed. Another tour group arrives expecting a preformance. Mr Sheffield is enlisted to help the Staff put it together. After the usual fiascos, the preformance is successful, earning theStaff hefty tips. At the end, Miss Brahms has teased up hair like Fran, and Yetta has multicolored hair like Mrs Slocombe.

Surely Mr Humphries with all of his connections would wrangle an invitation. Not exactly ,but he manages to get in as a last minute stand-in for a bridemaid.
Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms would miss the actual wedding, but be at the reception as serving staff through the efforts of Mrs dSlocombe's friend Mrs Axelby who shows up dressed as a Maitre' d.
Peacock and Lucas and would be vying to gain temporary jobs as ushers . In the end they would both be chosen to usher, in the overflow hall.
Young Mr Grace has an invitation which he raffles off to the secretaries knowing he would sleep through the whole thing. He draws a bra out of a hat box to determine the winner.
Rumbold gets an invitation but misunderstands the directions to Westminster and ends up on Abby Road.
Because of his many businesses Harman provides extra security and is stationed just off the altar.

Heir Apparent
The YMG has an illegitimate daughter who comes back to claim the manor house. Wanting to keep it as secret as possible, the YMG paid for her to go to the best schools nice and far away in America. I'm imagining her as an over-entitled fashion designer from New York who thinks she's better than a bunch of country folk.
According to Mr. Thorpe, because the manor house should have been hers the pension agreement would be invalid. (Law can be twisted for T.V.)
As she tries to assert herself as Queen of the manor, Mrs. Lovelock becomes jealous and 'mucks in' with the rest of them to try and get rid of her. Lovelock does learn to appreciate them (just a touch) more from this.
After a contrived plot fails (with Mrs. Slocombe pretending to be an immigration officer) Mavis recognizes the 'long lost daughter' as Ginny, a girl she went to school with in town!
It ends with Mrs. Slocombe hitting Ginny with her own (Ginny's) purse, shortly after which Capt. Peacock and Mrs. Lovelock physically throw her out, Ms. Brahms throws her cases out (telling her she "forgot" them), while Mr. Humphries cheerfully rifles through her purse that Mrs. Slocombe never gave back.

Also I didn't realize there were 11 pages! I never had a problem with Fran's voice, but I'm a little nasally myself.

As much as the first episode was very good, I wish they had done one prequel/transition episode where the staff was still working at Grace's. They would be complaining and wondering how long the store could stay afloat with no customers when they receive the news from the Boardroom of Mr. Grace's death. On order from the Board, they cover the counters for the last time, turn in their tapes and chalk, switch off the lights, and descend together in the last lift.
They meet again a few days later at the funeral. They trade stories pretending to be getting by well, but eventually all confess they miss each other terribly-- even Peacock, reluctantly. He then admits for the first time that his wife left him months ago and he can't stand to go to their usual haunts without her. Humphries tells of how he argues constantly with his mother now that they spend all day together at home, and can't afford to find separate accommodations elsewhere. Mrs. Slocombe just sits alone stroking her pussy now that Mrs. Axelby is gone. Miss Brahms needs a job, but can't compete in a city full of younger women willing to work for less.
At the funeral, there would be much havoc as a parade of old secretaries, strippers, and a string of questionable women would try to lay claim to his fortune as his common-law widow. It would be here that we first meet Miss Lovelock, which would better explain the staff's reluctance to accept her easily.
It would end at graveside with the staff walking away and two gravediggers with backs turned toward camera, shoveling dirt onto the lowered coffin. Just before the camera fades to black, the gravediggers turn to reveal their identities as Harman and Mash.

More episodes in my previously posted story arcs of "Young Mr Moulterd" and "Younger Mr Moulterd".
Having taken over the position of Farm Manager, Maxwell Moulterd has taken up residence in his late older brother Maurice's cottage. While doing renovations on the cottage. Maxwell stumbles across some of the wealth Maurice was rumored to have tucked away. The instructions are that it is to go to Mavis. The amount is quite considerable, enough to leave Mavis quite well off or as someone would say "enough to but and sell Sir Robert". However, Mavis claims she doesn't want it; as a simple country girl, she has no need for such things. She tries to give it to Maxwell, but he claims that he's just an old soldier who's not cut out for such a lifestyle. Martin Moulterd also won't take it saying that as unscrupulous as he may have been as a business man, he never took money that wasn't his. The Staff meanwhile have visions of what they would do with that kind of money. Eventually Mavis decides to divide the money up. Martin reinvests some into the Manor, Maxwell donates some of his share to wounded veterens, Mrs Slocombe donates some of her share to a fund to cae for homeless pussies, and Mr Humphries buys his mother the washing machine he intended to with his portion of the pension.

As James was so different from Mr Humphries, Wilberforce and the other have no idea what to expect from Mr Humphries long lost half-sister. But they are even more suprise when Alexandra arrives. She is absolutly Amazonian, even towering over Capt Peacock. She takes an instant liking to her "little" brother, greeting him with a rib crushing bear-hug. Alexandra later reveals that she is a powerlifter and pro wrestler under the moniker of "the Axe" After getting over the initial shock, Peacock tries his charms, but Alexandra ignores him, intent on forging a relationship with her new found brother. The others don't know quite what to make of her. Even Mavis is a bit hesitant. While out in the pony and cart Mr Humphries and Alexandra are accosted by Malcolm and his hooligans. Mr Humphries tries to avoid them, but Alexandra leaps out of the cart. Too late Malcolm realizes his bitten off more than he can chew. Alexandra puts a major beat down on Malcolm. Malcolm's friends are too stunned to intervene. As wrestling fans, they recognize her and instead ask for autographs, leaving the beaten and humiliated Malcolm to slink home on his own. Alexandra gives him a parting warning to leave her brother alone if he knows what's good for him. Alexandra enjoys her stay and before leaving instructs Mavis to take good care of Mr Humphries. She also suggests that one day she, James and Wilberforce and their father the Seaman should all get together. The other members of the Staff wonder if there is any place that could survive such a meeting.

Evidence surfaces that Miss Lovelock is not a lady of quality, but intstead has a rather (dead) common background. Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms waste no time in needleing her about it. "In which department you worked?", askes Mrs. Slocombe. "Habedashery", she said. "And when has it happened?" The women: "Let's see... it was in 1950 or what so ever. His name was Ernest, he was lovely, but was married. He always said that his wife loved rubarb very much and often in dreams thought she was Errol Flynn."
"Oh my God", Peacock says, "that must have been Mr. Grainger." A lot of memories are maded out, but they also find out that Mr. Grainger has done more noughty things in his time with Grace Brothers...

As to the question of Mr Humphries orientation that is more complex. Mr Humphries is rather fond of Jamie's hat and mustache. But then the cameras catch him in encounters with Mavis and Buster leading the team to conclude that there are some myths that not only can't be tested, but shouldn't even be attempted.
Myths to test:
Can you drive a golf cart through a wall unscathed?
Do sleeves ride up with wear?
Can the right woman change Mr. Humphries' whole point of view?
Can you support an Asian on a broken gas ring with an invalid mother and an asthmatic cat?
Can looking at scantily clad secretaries send an old heart into a dangerous arithmia?

I would have liked to seen an unknown child of Mr. Grace's suddenly pop out of nowhere and decide he (or she) wants to get involved in the manor since he lost out on his share of Grace Bros. and his interitance. I'm not sure if the child would be a clone of Mr. Grace and be a complete playboy and flirt, or be the very opposite and be a shy, prudish bookworm.
I would like to see a woman with loads of Hotel experience show up as a guest and stay to work in the manor. Her name is Grace Young or is it?

I was thinking about Gilligan's Island the other day. I can't imagine the AYBS cast getting stranded there, but it got me to think about the cast lost out in the woods. I picture an episode where the guys want to try their hand at game hunting. So Mr. Moulterd takes the guys on a traditional snipe hunt and ditches them in the woods. When he returns to the manor alone at midnight, Mavis lets him have it, but he just laughs at the prank. So Mavis and the gals have to venture out in the dark to rescue the guys. The cast after a few panicked encounters, find their way back after dawn to find Mr. Moulterd in the Great Room with his feet up, drinking brandy, and smoking a cigar.

I can see Slocombe getting boogered up with all the branches and brush then meeting up with the men who are scared shitless with all the rustling in the bushes. Peacock quaking shines a flashlight at the bushes and the part with Slocombe's head popping out, hair all disheveled causing the men to scream.

Peacock has another misadventure with the stuck throttle on the lawnmower, this time leading him to mow circles in the wheatfield until the mower gets stuck in the mud. To retrieve the mower, Rumbold drives in the tractor, runs chains to the mower and pulls it out. As the mower gets pulled free from the muck, it jump-starts up again and the mower-chained-to-tractor combination trample even more wheat -- leading to some very peculiar patterns in the field.
The next day, a passing news helicopter spots the "crop circles" which leads to a media fire-storm! Soon the manor is over run by alien enthusiasts looking for aliens.
Business gets so good that the staff is worried if Peacocks accident is uncovered, they will be blamed for perpetuating a hoax, and will face prosecution for fraud. The situation is further complicated after a painting accident leaves Mr. Humphries in his silver painting overalls covered in green paint. With all the guests and press still nosing around, they eventually manage to conceal "alien" Humphries long enough to get him cleaned up proper.
The episode ends with the press and guests giving up on the search for alien life after two weeks except for one stubborn guest that refuses to leave until he finds the alien that "probed" him. Mr. Humphries quickly escorts him to the door, pushes him out, and says, "Well you better go home now and maybe E.T. will phone you there." Under his breath he whispers, "The Wilberforce will be with you -- always."

There could be a real alien incredulous as to how easily these stupid Earthlings can be manipulated.

A tour group including a Mr Kruger, Mr Voorhees, Mr Myers and Mr Jigsaw come to stay at the Manor. By the end of the tour, they are the ones having nightmares.

A Japanese tour group arrives at the Manor. One of the members is Mr Kato (from "Hand of Fate") He recognizes the Staff from Grace Bros and becomes very agitated. The Staff make extra efforts to serve him, or dare I say trip over themselves. At the end of the episode, Mr Kato falls down the main staircase. The rest of the tour group is amused. On of them comments "Bucket-head Kato does it again." then informs the Staff that Mr Kato has always been clumsy.

Good thing it isn't one of Mr. Moulterd's slop buckets for the goat! :D
