Hey Guys~
I was just watching "The Holdup" for the Nth time, and I was just wondering, what actress, or character is Mrs. Slocombe imitating when she is pretending to me Mad Ma Gumby. She says that old line "Come down [sic] and see me sometime." What's that from? The only thing I found was that its from an old song, but they way she says it, it sounds like it was just a line taken from a movie. Hope someone can help me. Thanks so much!

Mae West used the line "Why don't you come up and see me sometime."

Mae West used the line "Why don't you come up and see me sometime."

It's commonly repeated that way. But in "She Done Him Wrong" supposedly the quote is:

"I always did like a man in a uniform. That one fits you grand. Why don't you come up sometime and see me? I'm home every evening."

I've also seen people insist there's no "sometime" in the quote at all. Guess I'll have to see the film!

In the W.C. Fields movie "My Little Chickadee"(1940),

Flower Belle Lee(Mae West): Any time you got nothin' to do and lots of time to do it, come up.

then later

Cuthbert J. Twillie(WCFields): If you get up around the Grampian Hills - why don't you come up and see me sometime?
Flower Belle Lee: Ah, yeah, yeah, I'll do that, my little chickadee.

But Mrs. Slocombe is definitely doing Mae West; probaby from MLC.
