I would also like to know as it seems he just didnt make Grace and Favour (AYBSA? if you prefer).

He was one of my favorite characters!

I think the very simple answer to the question is that he just didn't want to do it. I recall some interview or other where he believed very firmly that Mr. Lucas would not have fit in. And I also recall him not liking the rather silly premise of Mr. H. sleeping in the same bed with a female. My own thought on this is that Trevor had left AYBS? quite some years prior to the creation of AYBS? Again! and he was simply "gone" from the whole thing both literally and figuratively. I imagine it would have been awkward writing him back in since there was no reason given on the show as to why he left.

When Trevor left AYBS? it was because he didn't realise that there was going to be another series and signed a contract to do another show. Once that is done you have to fulfill the required amount of time so he couldn't come back.

As for G&F there were several reasons which have already been mentioned. In addition to those mentioned he did say he thought that the whole idea would not work, which I kind of agree with - the show itself worked as a comedy but it was axed from air.

It would have been great to come back as a guest for an episode though...

I also wish the show would have mentioned some regards to Mr. Grainger....

He was my favourite character, so it would've been great to see him in it. At the same time, I don't know if it would've worked, considering that when they finished the series, they had Mr Spooner, and he wasn't mentioned again.

I've always had this idea in my mind that if he did appear in it, they could've made him really successful, and could get back at captain peacock for the way he treated him, similar to in Takeover, when he had more authority, and used it to his advantage! It might've been a completely bad idea, but it would've been interesting to see how it would've worked!

I've just thought of what would've been a great punchline for the whole G&F series:

Mr. Thorpe announces that the Manor has just been bought by a group of four new owners. Enter Mr. and Mrs. Lucas (Miss Thorpe) and Mr. and Mrs. Spooner (Miss Belfridge).

Lucas says to Peacock: "Remember what you said about some of our lives not being worth living?" Peacock groans in apprehension, and we cut to the credits.

That would have been a great end to the series!

Better yet, just make Mr. Thorpe announce someone has bought the estate, have Mr. Lucas walk through the door with his big trademark grin, have everyone faint, then roll the credits.

That would have made for a great cliff hanger.

no way could mr. lucas come into that much money or even have young mr. grace leave milestone manor in his will to him. mr. lucas would just as ms. brahms say "Cop the Lolly"

The following season would resume with Mr. Lucas saying "Don't be silly everyone! I'm not the new owner. I'm only a new guest. HE is the new owner!" The camera would pan back to the door and in would enter... Mr. Goldberg! (The McFitty Agency having done very well!)

Ahhh I like it better with Lucas owning it and then he could spend the next 6 eppys treating everyone like he was treated at GB, especially Miss Brahms. Knowing Lucas came into money, she'd be all over him but he won't have any of it and goes for Miss Lovelock.

Mr. Lucas could have won the football pools (as Mr. Grainger thought he himself had done) and decided to invest his winnings in Millstone Manor.

Mr. Goldberg could date Mrs. Slocombe as his wife has left him. The only problem with him being the new owner would be the threat of a fire should the place prove unprofitable.

Goldberg could install a vat of fat in the basement should the situation arise. ;)

I always felt if he had come back, there would be a chance of getting back the chemistry the old AYBS show had among the cast. Whatever storyline used, I felt it could have helped the show go on much longer than it did.
