View Full Version : 101 Reasons Why We Love Mr. Humphries

I've been thinking about starting this thread for a while, and today seems like a particularly fitting time, in honor of our dearly departed John.

So I was wondering, can we come up with 101 different/unique reasons why we love Mr. Humphries? It seems alot, but he was so funny and such a dear character, I think it's possible. I think eventually, it would be fun to do a whole series of "__ reasons we love (whatever character)" threads, although I doubt there would be 101 reasons for other characters. Personally, I'd be hard pressed to come up with 5 reasons to like some characters, like Old Mr. Grace or Mr. Tebbs.

OK, I'll start with a few. In no particular order, of course. I'm sure we'll be up to 101 in no time, right? LOL.

1. For the way he answers the phone in his deep voice, "Menswear."

2. Because he was so patient for all those years that he was essentially Mr. Grainger's babysitter. (Having to wake him with "Are you Free?", explain everything to him, etc.)

3. Because he doesn't pitch his woo in public! ;)

4. For all the times he had to put up with Mrs. Slocombe's misguided advances.

Ok, that's 4 to start. Who's next with #5, etc? :)

5) I'm free!

6) the stories he's always telling Mr Lucas about what happened to him the night before

7) The pause and look on his face before he chimes with a response to what someone else said

8) When he comes out the lift after everyone else in a funny costume

9) The walk

10) His comments while serving a customer

42. For the innovative way he dresses topless female mannequins (scarf, bowler hats, etc.)

43. Because he knows a dance step worth 25 pounds

44. Because he once let his mother come stay with him when she'd had a fight with his dad (though she had the cheek to object to his canopy bed,) even though this then got warped over the years into him being over 40 and still living with his mom, having never left home at all. :b**ch:

45. Because if he wasn't working anymore, he'd spend all day in his garden, trying his gnomes in different positions :p

46. Because he wouldn't mind if Mrs. Slocombe wanted to come over and give his Wibbly-Wobblies a swing...even though she claimed to have no interest whatsoever in his Wibbly-Wobblies. :D

47. Because he was ridiculously and bizarrely funny as Italian Tony.

48. Because the way he indignantly told Miss Brahms a "A HANDBAG?!?" was one of the funniest things I ever heard him say.
