It makes me wonder if there are clips like this from the original series. Surely some must exist somewhere.

If you take a look at the main page here and scroll down a few, you'll see a thread I put up on AYBS? Australian Style.

Just like with many other shows and movies not available commercially it always starts with *someone* like a studio having the originals/masters and needs to "rediscover" them to make them available commercially due to public interest.
I'm working on trying to make that possible so please bear with me! :)

Neat clips! :)
I hope more people discover more bloopers to post from this series. The one you guys have for the original AYBS show is fun to go through although at this point I can't see of what I've found is somewhere in that list.. :|

That fact alone must of caused MANY bloopers, but a clever remedy to the problem. Poor John! Then to come back to England and learn the names all over again for the regular cast-Yikes! :) But since it was a few shows, that probably worked in his favor that way and the transition back went much smoother. Must have been a few puzzled looks in the beginning though like "Who?" Oh the fun of showbusiness!

Hi Tiddles,
Sorry, I couldn't find where you were referring to... can you post a direct link?

Thanks Tiddles... I think I am unanimous in that I was asking if there were any outakes or blooper clips from the ORIGINAL (British) show... But I think you think I think I was was about the Australian version maybe?

As far as I know, they didn't save any of the bloopers from the orginal series. Video tape was used and a very tight budget so if they boo-boo'd, it was just taped over and they continued on.
I would pay a million hen's teeth for a DVD or VHS tape of some bloopers. I think this is what prompted me to start the "Bloopers" thread in the first place.

All the diehard fans of AYBS already found most of the bloopers from the original AYBS show as seen in the bloopers threads in this forum. I'm sure 99.9% of the bloopers from the original show are there alone. It'll be 100% if I added the ones I found, but I'm afraid for duplications.
I think they just happened to do most of the bloopers during the show and if there were any in between the shows then the live audience will get those as it is with most shows past and present. I doubt it was that many anyway with such professional cast. ;)

haha that was awesome when the aussie version of Mrs. Slocombe [sorry I dont know her name] kissed the boom mic when it came into the shot LOL
you do see the boom mic occasionally come into the shot on various TV shows...
I remember when I was a little kid, and I was watching Mr. Dressup [a kid's show in Canada, on the CBC.... a lot like Mr. Roger's Neighbourhood],,, anyway, I was watching it, and the boom mic dropped down into the shot briefly and it scared the hell out of me! I didn't know what that thing was! this big silver metal thing with gray cloth on it.... lol I remember it so vividly.
Also, I do hope some out-takes of the original AYBS? shows up somewhere... that would be awesome. Who knows, maybe there could be a forgotten, un-aired episode stashed away in the basement of the BBC somewhere.... anything's possible. Maybe there's a forgotten 'behind the scenes' tape that was aired when the show was on, or the colour version of the Pilot episode, or maybe an audience member smuggled in a super-8 camera and filmed some of the show... just imagine what footage could be lurking around in some basement.... hm...

LOL. Thanks for sharing that! :) Interesting that there was a Mr. Roger's-like show in Canada too!

This actually came true 12 years ago when those of us on Jeff Rice's board helped locate "Top Hat and Tails" from the BBC archives and bring it to the US. "Top Hat and Tails" was at that time, listed in the AYBS books, yet none of us had seen it. We wondered if why it was not shown - ie, was there something controversial about it? And so the episode remained in relative obscurity. That is, until someone from the UK piped in and mentioned that they aired the episode regularly on UK Gold. That person taped it, and sent it to John Crowley in the US, who converted it from PAL to NTSC and sent out copies to whoever wanted it. I got my copy from Miss Belfridge, and hung on to that tape until the DVDs were released. At the same time, John contacted PBS reps. PBS insisted that even though books listed 69 episodes for the series, their package only included 68, and that "Top Hat and Tails" was not available, and must have been destroyed. John sent them the tape from UK Gold, and through a series of emails and letters, PBS was able to acquire the episode from the BBC in 1996 and it made its premiere on PBS that fall. I feel proud to be part of that original group that helped bring the episode to US airwaves for AYBS fans all across the country to see.
As far as we all know, and based on questions directly asked to AYBS actors (including John Inman), the 69 episodes listed were the only episodes produced, and all have been released on DVD, at least in the US. So while I suppose there is some remote chance of a "lost" episode still being out there that everyone is forgetting about, I think the chances of finding "lost" material, outtakes or otherwise stands a better chance of discovery.
Anyone else out there remember the "Top Hat and Tails" recovery efforts?

That's pretty cool; I never knew the background behind getting the show! It's still strange why this episode was targeted to be "missing" since overall it is a really good show. Especially with the rose between the teeth! ;)
