I got the "Way OVer Priced" DVD box set from A&E a little while back and I'm hooked. Some very funny moments there. I'm nuts for the Spanish Inquisition and Ministry of Silly Walks.

One of my PBS stations is planning to air Python this Fall. I'm still debating with myself wheather or not to watch it. I do think John Cleese is funny.

I know this will be a stupid question , what do you think?

I think you should definetly give Monty a try ... it may take a while to get used to but once you start watching you'll have a hard time trying to give it up

I remember recording every single episode that was on when I was in elementary school -- I think I was the only one in my entire school who even knew what Monty was -- I started watching it 'cause I loved John Cleese in Fawlty Towers at the time.

Yes, the first time I saw MP&HG was in a movie theater, a small one, but a theatre none the less.

Among the games on the CD are "Catch the Cow", "Spank the Virgin", and an online Shrubbery Store!

Ah Monty Python is a classic. Particularly the films "And Now for Something Completely Different" and "The Life of Brian". It is very British humour which does take some getting used to but once you're hooked, you're hooked! I also love the "Lumberjack song" and "sit on my face, and tell me that you love me"

Palin: Hello, good evening and welcome to another edition of Blood,
Devastation, Death War and Horror, and later on we'll be
meeting a man who *does* gardening. But first on the show
we've got a man who speaks entirely in anagrams.

Idle: Taht si crreoct.

Palin: Do you enjoy it?

Idle: I stom certainly od. Revy chum so.

Palin: And what's your name?

Idle: Hamrag - Hamrag Yatlerot.

Palin: Well, Graham, nice to have you on the show. Now, where
do you come from?

Idle: Bumcreland.

Palin: Cumberland?

Idle: Stah't it sepricely.

Palin: And I believe you're working on an anagram version of
Shakespeare?

Idle: Sey, sey - taht si crreoct, er - ta the mnemot I'm wroking
on "The Mating of the Wersh".

Palin: "The Mating of the Wersh"? By William Shakespeare?

Idle: Nay, by Malliwi Rapesheake.

Palin: And what else?

Idle: "Two Netlemeng of Verona", "Twelfth Thing","The Chamrent
of Venice"....

Palin: Have you done "Hamlet"?

Idle: "Thamle". 'Be ot or bot ne ot, tath is the nestquoi.'

Palin: And what is your next project?

Idle: "Ring Kichard the Thrid".

Palin: I'm sorry?

Idle: 'A shroe! A shroe! My dingkom for a shroe!'

Palin: Ah, Ring Kichard, yes... but surely that's not an anagram,
that's a spoonerism.

Idle: If you're going to split hairs, I'm going to piss off. (Exit)

Me too! :D I loved MP, they were a sort of visual realisation to the Goon Show, which I lovel listening to (repeated) as a teenager. It's hard to remember just how much doing such wacky-but-intelligent humour on mainstream tv was pushing back the boundaries back at the start of the '70s.

And particularly given the fact it was 40 years ago, and he was using only basic cutout animation, the results are surprisingly sophisticated; I love watching them, there's just so much to see in them all. Did anyone see the extra that's in some of the dvd collections, where he talks you through the process he used, and mentions some of the old drawing collections he raided for his starting-points for characters?

I love Brit television but I have to admit I find Monty Python unentertaining.

It is certainly a specific brand of humour, and many people who like britcoms don't like MP because it's so individual in its sense of humour; just personal taste, I guess. Nice to hear from all points of view :)

I love Monty Python and other Britcoms, but even I see their vast differences in approach and appeal.

I like what I've seen of Monty Python. My favorite of their videos has to be The Holy Grail - I own that one, along with And Now For Something Completely Different, and The Life of Brian. I find myself quoting all of these on a regular basis. :)

I wasn't as impressed with The Meaning of Life, but it's not bad. That scene with the "World's Biggest Glutton" grosses me out, though. *shudder*

They're both great movies. :) Although for some reason, the Monty Python quote used most frequently in our house (usually by myself or my younger sister) is from And Now For Something Completely Different:
