A friend of mine who's in a position to know (he's a PR man in London, was a talent agent for many years, and knows almost everybody in British showbiz) responded to a question of mine about Ms. Foot's current whereabouts and doings by saying,

"I can confirm that Moira Foot is alive, well, happy and living
with her husband and kids on a farm in deepest southern England. If you'd
like to write to her I'm happy to pass a letter on."

So I'll be happy to write to her and pass along any info I might hear in return.

An update:

I recently won a lovely picture of Moira on eBay, and sent it along to her, along with a fan letter requesting an autograph. I mentioned this board, asked if she had any interesting stories about her time on AYBS?, and how interested we'd all be in hearing from her.

Naturally I'll be happy to pass along anything I might hear from her.

I really liked her as a secretary. She was perfect in German Week.

I've often wondered why they changed secretaries so often. Was it just that the Producers and writers never felt like they had the right one, did they like changing often to have different women for Peacock to ogle, or was it just that they didn't have enough money or joke material to pay an actress for a full-time part?

Looking forward to the next update Larsen!

I don't have the article handy, but I remember reading somewhere that Moira left AYBS in order to appear on several episodes of The Benny Hill Show. Personally, I think she would have been better served (so to speak) by staying on at Grace Brothers and becoming Rumbold's permanent secretary, but that's all water under the bridge now. Perhaps she'll address that if she writes back to me.

Her and Larry Martyn left for higher ground and both fell flat. Make one wonder what it would have been like if these two have stayed.

It's kind of like some of the major players in MASH that left after the first few seasons, only to have admitted years later they regretted the decision - that they didn't realize at the time what a special and unique show it was.

why did trevor leave?

Greg WibblyWobbly

Supposedly because of a schedule conflict between a play he was doing and when AYBS? was to be recorded.

It's always difficult to know what to do in these kinds of situations. All one can do is make a decision on the basis of the best information one has, and hope for the best.

In Moira's case, living on a farm in southern England certainly sounds nice, and I have no reason to doubt my friend's report that she's well and happy.

Perhaps sometime after the events of AYBSA, an older and wiser Miss Thorpe, tiring of city life and its strange men following her off the train (and disillusioned by the commercial failure of her proposed filing system) went on holiday to Millstone Manor, fell in love with and married Mr. Moulterd, and became Mavis' stepmum.

In any case, I think I'll watch all three of Moira's episodes tonight, and have a ... (wait for it...) Moira-thon. :)

Yes, as Denise Laroque, the leader of the Communist resistance (and Rene's childhood sweetheart) - not to be confused with the Gaullist resistance, the local branch of which was led by Michelle Dubois, played by Kirsten Cooke.

I just recently sent a package to Darlington, England and it took two weeks exactly. I've mailed packages before and it's only taken 7 days. I was surprised it took longer this time.. but I guess your post explains it. But, wow, 5 weeks is quite a long time. Like Melchy said though, at least you've heard something. :D

I just learned that Moira Foot was born on June 19, 1953. So was I! Isn't that an amazing coincidence?!
I also happened to have just finished watching "German Week," and Ms Foot featured prominently in that episode. I am glad to hear that she and her family are doing well and seem to be living the idyllic life in the country!

There is nothing I can honestly stand about the character. I can't stand the way he talks, I can't stand the way he looks, I can't stand they way it's supposed to be "funny" about the way he mispronounces words. I honestly believe that most of his scenes are nothing but filler, unfunny, annoying and a total bore. When he goes into one of his long winded unfunny speeches I used to want to smash the tv but now I just hit the forward button. I'm actually thinking of taking my avi's and eliminating his scenes because if you think about it I could do it and hardly miss any important part of any storyline.

If you can forgive me as I drag the conversation back to Moira Foot. I'm new to the forum. Anyway, I guess i was about 16 years old when the second series of Hark at Barker was broadcast. Moira had a largish part in the second series playing Effie the maid. The series was quite typical for the day with Moira being the inevitable focus of much innuendo.
I guess the attraction wasn't lost on me either! Definitely the first ever woman to truly stop me in my tracks. She could only have been 18 years old, and she simply made every other beauty of the day look ordinary in comparison.
I guess a French Maid outfit was a pretty lazy way to make a girl look sexy, but Moira surpassed the base requirement, and was absolutely stunning. To this day (some 40 years later), I have yet to cast my eyes on any woman who even came close to Moira Foot aged 18 or so.
I truly did think she could make my heart stop beating.
Having said all that, I have never met her (or attempted to), and I doubt that I ever will. I would love an autographed photo of her, but wouldn't even know where to begin that process.
I guess I'm kind of blessed to being one of many men who saw her at her very best, and fell madly in love with her from a distance. As a young women, the word "beautiful" falls some way short of doing her any justice whatsoever.
As a mature woman, I hope she lives a deeply contented life.
I will content myself having witnessed the most joyously beautiful woman in the world at the height of her powers.
If anyone hasn't seen Hark at Barker, I'd say Series 2 is worth every penny for those few brief moments when Moira is on screen. I still sit and stare like a gormless eejit.
