View Full Version : Anyone else here like Torchwood?

Ok, so it isn't a comedy, but since pickings are generally pretty slim on BBC America, I have to say, I really got into this show. And I really looked forward to Saturdays, with reruns of Dr. Who, followed by Torchwood, and then Graham Norton. It was closest any lineup has come to being "must see TV" for me since "Grey's Anatomy" was still fresh.
Except for a couple of eppys of Graham Norton, I haven't even watched BBCA since they finished airing Torchwood, but luckily next month they'll start airing the new Torchwood season--while it's still new, instead of a year or more behind like everything else. (what a strange concept...not getting british TV light years behind the rest of the planet.) Here's wishing their 2008 lineup finally hits the mark with the right mix of new shows and old favorites! (It doesn't matter how many times I've seen AYBS...if they put it in their lineup I'd still tune in from time to time. :D )

So anyway, did anyone else get into this show? i've never considered myself much of a "sci-fi" person, but first I became majorly addicted to the "new" Dr. Who, and then I just started watching Torchwood by extension.

Anyone else looking forward to series 2 of Torchwood?

I love this show. My favourite character is Toshiko. I am so looking forward to the next series.

 It is one of my favorites along with Dr. Who.

This is something I think I would like on DVD. I can't do a weekly program because I always end up missing eppys and then losing half the story.

I really do prefer Doctor Who I'm afraid BUT I do think that John Barrowman is a brilliant actor and singer.

I would most definatley take Torchwood over the Sarah Jane Adventures though.

Another show that I've gotten everything released so far on DVD but haven't watched it yet.

It is worth a look but Doctor Who is much better.

Sadly, I don't have BBC America. I could rent it from Blockbuster Online. What is it about?

It is a Doctor Who spin-off. Captain Jack Harkness the Doctors former companion revolutionises Torchwood and things like that. It has John Barrowman in it.

I thought it would be worth reviving this thread in case anyone else here is planning to watch Torchwood: Children on Earth and wants to discuss. :)

Yes, despite the fact that I already know everything that happens and my exhaustive rant about that recently, it's still a major television event, LOL. And I am over my bitterness just enough that I will watch (kind of the same way I'll watch AYBS episodes a gazillion times, even the ones I'm not crazy about.)

For anyone who doesn't know what I'm blabbering on about, it's a 5 night miniseries they made instead of a proper full 3rd series. :( :censored:

It starts airing here in the US tomorrow(today already, depending on your time zone...Monday 7/20 anyway), on BBC America, at 6 Pacific/9 Eastern with repeats all evening. There's also a 1 hour "catch up" thingamajig beforehand that I guess is supposed to bring people new to the show up to speed or something. I think it's airing in Canada this week too.

A word from someone who's been there, if you want to find out more, I suggest you read about it on BBCA's website because pretty much everywhere else on the web will spoil the story for you.

I'm still one p!ssed off fangirl at the last 1.5 hours or so, but up until then it's actually really good storytelling for the most part. I think it may even be easier for non-fans or "casual" viewers to enjoy because they won't be busy getting all emotional about characters they know and 'love'.

So anyway, despite all of my grumbling, I hope if anyone decides to watch, they'll let us know what they think. :)

I saw John Barrowman live on stage last night, playing Albin in "La Cage aux Folles" here in London. Somehow I don't think that role was a great "stretch" for him as an actor. ;)

You know, I am thinking I am about done with Torchwood now as they have seen fit to kill off over half their cast!

I like John Barrowman as an actor/performer but I do not like Torchwood. I understand it's purpose but I don't think they should have made a Doctor Who spin-off.

I love Torchwood, too. Though it's weird to see how different series 3 and 4 are from the first two. Anyone here watching series 4?
