One of my funniest moments is when Humphries is showing the customer the Japanese robe in "Hoorah For The Holidays" and he HI-Ya's him.... After seeing that scene 1000 times, it still gets me to laugh out loud !!!!http://lordgreg.minki.net/lol.gif

One of the funniest moments on AYBS (that I can remember right now) would have to be:

SLOCOMBE "No one is shouting up my skirt saying they recognize the face!"

And all the times when Humphries would walk on last in some ridiculous outift/costume

CLASSIC!

It may not be the funniest but its one of my all time favs:

Mr. Harmon explaining to Rumbold how he is 'oovering up the dust.....
and ending with the quote, "Now, if goblin had been first in the business,
I'd be gobblin' up the dust!"

I have too many favorties but I would have to say "German Week" when Mrs . Slocombe is drunk is one of my favorites.

Miss Brahms
06-07-2005, 11:20 PM
one of my faves was in By Appointment when the royal couple was about to enter Grace Brothers and Mrs. Slocombe knocked off the plant. I think Miss Brahms should have been made a senior right after they found Mrs. Slocobe's body.

"Look out, here comes a big one!"

Classic !! :D

Another one of my funniest moments is from "Top Hats and Tails" when Humphries and Peacock are dancing towards the camera and Humphries puts the rose in his teeth !!!!!http://lordgreg.minki.net/lol.gif

Old Mr. Grace
06-08-2005, 09:12 AM
My favorite moment is at the very end of "Strong Stuff, This Insurance" when Mr. Harman is giving a report on YMG's office furniture with the staff listening outside.

Mr Harman: ". . . a bit of dry rot in the legs, and the knobs going to fall off."

In "Front Page Story" during the beauty contest, when contest emcee Peacock sees contestant E. Slocombe (dressed like Miss Kitty on "Gunsmoke" or something) and asks, "Would you like to tell the judges your name and what planet you come from?"

That one kills me too Miss Jackson !!!! Especially when she kicks him !!!

Mr. Harmon
06-08-2005, 07:19 PM
My all time favorite moment was an obvious ad-lib (obvious from the reaction of the rest of the staff that they had to edit the film LOL).

I can't remember the title of the epidsode, but it's the one where they're experimenting with the early opening scheme.

Mr. Grainger say's "How do arrive at that hypothesis?"
Mr Lucas: "What?"
Mr. Grainger "I wont say that again, my teeth are caught up in this damned custard" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v185/Amino-X/AYBS%20Emoticons/emotlol.gif

MMMMMM

Depends which day it is...

There are two:

In Dear Sexy Knickers: at the last Mrs. S and Mr. L. being a Naughty Boy...

In A Change is as Good AS A Rest: the crew in Mr. R.'s office having a heated discussion on who gets to do what with which Toys...

And a runner-up is: the fight between Mrs. S. as the wife and Miss B. as the mistress...

Let's see, I have a lot too.

The scene in "The Takeover" where the souffle goes out of control, the Yorkshires go flat, the eel is as stiff as a board, and Mr. Humphries has a blowed up hat.

A lot of scenes from "A Change Is As Good As A Rest."
For instance, "My name is Jasmine and I have just been to the potty." The great fun that Mr. Humphries has in Wibblywobblyland. When the small mechanical dog climbs onto another mechanical dog.

I also like the classic scene in Anything You Can Do" when that frog appears in young Mr. Graces's soup.

That's all I can think of for now.

Concerning the CDUs. That cat from the Pussyboots display was THE UGLIEST cat I have ever seen. Harmon & Mrs. slocombe inferred that it had once been alive and is now stuffed. If so, I'm glad I never got a chance to meet it.
The charm of the CDUs was that they were always defective. Remember when the CDU playing the Nutcracker Suite goosed Capt. Peacock? That was hilarious.

It's so difficult to pick the top funniest moment, but one of my tops would have to be the Coco Club Commercial bit. Mrs. Slocombe and Capt. Peacock are dancing with a barstool attached to her rear, Mr. Rumbold is making obscene noises with his accordian, and Mr.Grace is spilling champagne all over the place. Lots to laugh about in that scene for sure!

I have two STAND-OUT favorites among hundreds, and they are when the men have to undress for their insurance exam in Strong Stuff this Insurance. When Lucas glances down at Captain Peacock's "equipment," he grins maliciously and quite obviously relaxes and is quite proud of his "equipment" in comparison. Add to that the hilarity when Mr. Humphries comes in and has to undress, and then Miss Brahms and Mrs. Slocombe come in and threaten to take a peek!

The other favorite is when the staff are all down in the basement "decorating" for The Club. That whole episode is wrought with funnies, especially when Mr. Harmon loses the tea tray three or four times, and also does the "spin trick" with that two by four on his head.

Several moments here, but in general, it's always a blast to see Mr. Humphries and Mr. Lucas humming or singing together. Think of the two of them humming in "Tangled Web" to divert Captain Peacock's suspicions or in " Mrs. Slocombe Expects" when Miss Brahms comes in as the mystery shopper -they hum a stripper theme for her. And of course their wonderful part of "Happy Birthday" in "Fifty Years On." I think there are others, but I can't remember them all off hand. Even when they say or do things in tandem it's terrific - looking up from the floor in "Diamonds" - "Are you being served, Sir?" , or "'Heiling' Mr. Grainger in "Forward, Mr. Grainger." Too funny!

So sad we'll never know who Ethel was.

It was just a name of a friend or even a random name Mrs. S. pulled out of a hat to cover herself when Peacock caught her on the phone. The name "Ethel" isn't the most attractive name in the book, which added a laugh. Also..I have a theory the writers may have been using the Lucy/Ethel connection....with those two acting as foils for one another. Having Mrs. S. with a friend named "Ethel" was a gentle reminder that misery loves company when you're in hot water, in a sitcom. Back on topic, one of my fave moments takes place in the canteen:

There nothing wrong with that Dazz. I find the little stuff the funniest sometimes myself. The way Humphries acts so flaming sometimes gets a chuckle out of me. When cast members simply roll their eyes, the expressions on their faces when responding to another cast members comments. That's what makes the show so great. It doesn't have to be in your face to be funny.

That line was from "Tangled Web."

Mrs. Slocombe: :I notice she didn't burst into tears when she thought it was me!!"

Lucas: Funny, that.

I love all the little moments. What a great thread!

One of my favorite little chuckles is when Mrs. Slocombe is Little Alice Age 8 and is crawling into the cot, and Mr. Lucas does something rude (I can't remember if he makes some wisecrack or tries to boost her in), and she tells him "I'll smack your legs in a minute!".

Or, from the same episode, where she comes out in the LAA8 costume, explaining that she couldn't fit into the Miss Muffett costume, and Mr. Humphries asks her "what makes you think you fit into Little Alice Age 8?".

By the way, does anyone know if script books are available anywhere? I want to try an experiment, by taking funny scenes and replacing character names with characters from other TV shows. I want to see how funny it would (or wouldn't) be to have, say, the guys from CSI discussing Mrs. Slocombe's cat's pregnancy. But I need the complete scripts.

He pushes against Little Alice age 4's butt to hoist her in the crib then makes the comment that "That's how they trap hippopatumus's.

Not that I know of and I don't understand why. Other BBC shows have them. I have an AYBS? book called "Camping In and other fiascos" that novelizes a few of the stories but that's as close to anything like a script that I've come across.

That would be amazing if they would come up with a book like that. You can't always remember some of the lines, and it would be a lot easier than having to grab the dvd's each time you want to hear them.

VYMG, that episode was blasted full of hilarious lines. I can't go for 2 minutes without rolling on the floor with laughter while watching it!

My personal favorite:

Some more of my fave funny moments:

:grainger01: Your hair looks very nice today, Mrs. Slocombe.

[the dummy is silent]

:grainger01: Alright, ignore me you bad-tempered old cow!! :x "

-------------

Don't move, you man you. Cover your body with me. You're sophisticated and dangerous. You're slightly aloof...

Mr. Lucas: Bald as a coot with only one tooth.
Male voice on tape: Stay just where you are. Don't move a muscle.
Mr. Lucas: She's wearing a tin bra and starch in her bustle.
Male voice on tape: If you want a real "he-man," you'll find I'm a killer.
Mr. Lucas: With a face like yours, you'll end up with Guy the Gorilla.

-----------------

Secretary: Oww!!  . Was that you Mr Grace?!!
Young Mr. Grace: What?
Secretary: Pinching my bottom!!
Young Mr. Grace: Well it sounds like me.

---------------------

Mrs. Slocombe: There you are, madam: I hope the garment gives every satisfaction! :D

Corset Customer: And you really think this type of corset will keep my figure under control?

Mrs. Slocombe: Well, the stiffeners are the best quality whale bone! :P

Corset Customer: Yes, but will they be strong enough? :|

Mrs. Slocombe: Well, they're strong enough for the whale!

My favorite moment is at the very end of "Strong Stuff, This Insurance" when Mr. Harman is giving a report on YMG's office furniture with the staff listening outside.

Mr Harman: ". . . a bit of dry rot in the legs, and the knobs going to fall off."

I love that whole scene - I think it's very very clever writing. That scene always makes me laugh out loud.

one of my funniest moments actually comes in an eppy that doesn't have grainger. i absolutely love the final scene in strong stuff this insurance where the appraiser reads off the descriptions of the furniture and the staff thinks its their results from the physicals. their facial expressions and the mental pictures you get crack me up everytime time.

another one is in hoorah for the holiday when rumbold says the water is just forty minutes away from the hotel and lucas shouts of BY JET!!. with that grimace on his face, it gets me lauging to the point of tears.

but my favorite is from camping in when mrs. slocombe describes being thrown flat on her back in clapham common, thats a classic
