Since we are such die hard fans of the show, it's within our rights to critic the boo-boo's on it. Can you recall some of the mistakes the show had on it ??????

I'll start this one off with the very first blooper I reacall.....
From the Pilot Eppy, when Lucas and Brahms are carrying the dummy out, the dummys head was face up. When they get to the floor and discover the dummys head is stuck in the lift door, Lucas goes to retrieve it. Then we find that the dummys head is face down......

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I am dying to see if anyone ever caught this..
You know how whenever Mrs. Slocombe has a sight-gag its almost sure to
involve a peak at her bloomers? Welll....
In the episode where the queen may come into the store,
The staff rehearses for the event with Ms. Slocombe and Cptn Peacock
playing the royal couple.....
During that scene, Mr. Harmon jerks the red carpet out from under the
faux-royals while they are on the stairs.....
Mrs. Slocombe does a prat fall, legs in the air and all, but surprise, surprise
and wonder of wonders,.......no sign of knickers anywhere!!!!!
Am I just dreaming?

My favorite personal discovery, and blooper, was the shocking revelation that Mike Berry's FLY IS OPEN and his shirt tail's poking out from it in one scene in "Friends and Neighbors." They do nothing to cover it up and obviously never bothered to re-shoot the scene.

In "Diamonds Are a Man's Best Friend" the wealthy lady customer buys a pair of gloves. Mr. Lucas puts them in a small shopping bag and places the bag directly in front of the lady. But once the lady notices that her diamond is missing, she leaves the store without taking the gloves she bought.

I'm not sure if these are bloopers or not, but they amuse me each time I see them.
In the canteen during the "No Sale" episode, Mr. Humphries is asked if he liked his Queen Pudding. He commented "It's not living up to expectations." If you look closely at Mr. Grainger it looks as if he's about to crack up. He has that wide grin on his face. :D
Also in that same episode, Mr. Lucas is trying to lift the sales figures from Rumbold's office. Just as Mr. Lucas finds the figures, Rumbold's telephone rings. Rumbold walks in and Mr. Lucas, looking for an excuse, says "I came in to answer your phone." A good 20 seconds of dialogue takes place, after which Mr. Lucas finally answers the phone; however, it never rang during those 20 seconds of dialogue, it only rang once at the beginning.

Speaking of telephones, I've noticed in several episodes that the phone cord on Young Mr. Grace's telephone looks like a piece of rope. There's one epsidode ("Top Hat and Tails" I think) where Mr. Rumbold and YMG are talking to each other on the phone, and it is obvious that YMG's phone is fake.

I was wondering if it just wasn't that the phones in there were from 1829. The really old ones with the thick cloth wire. Like the one Rumbold has with the push buttons on it.... http://home.dejazzd.com/mollie/confused.gif

When I was a child phones didn't have the curly cords that most of us are used to.They had thick straight cords both from the wall to the phone and from the phone to the reciever.

I can see this in my mind ,but I'm nor sure I actually saw it or if it's the power of suggestion. Mr Humphries tripping I mean.
IMO he was tripping deliberately due to the shock of Mrs. Slocombe calling his name.

Another one !!!! In the very begining of "Cold Comfort" the camera shot in question is one in the gent's department looking over at the ladies. You can see Mr. Grainger sitting on a chair by the ladies counter (the part of the ladies department that is rarely seen) He has the cotton in his ears already. It's dark over there but it's when the opening credits are rolling. Let me know if anyone else sees this !!!!!!

I can't recall the episode names but will look for them.....
2 about Mrs. Slocombe
First, There is a comment about Mrs Slocombe's Pussy, not knowing its
name, it is a later episode, yet Mrs. Slocombe has already mentioned it by
name.....tiddles in an earlier one.
Second, In the episode about her birthday, no one can remember her
name yet in earlier episodes, they call her Betty.
I'll see if I can put names to the episodes and their sequence numbers....

Both from "50 Years On"
Greg is right, the references to NOT knowning Ms. Slocombe's name nor her
cat's name are both in the episode 50 years on.
Ms. Slocombe's name (Betty) is first referenced in the pilot....the scene
where she is trying to influence Captain Peacock to make Grainger allow her
the use of the center stand. He calls her Mrs. Slocombe and she huddles in
close and says, "Betty"...
Her cat is named by Mr. Humphries in "Our figure are slipping"... The scene,
Rumbold is telling everyone to stay after and Mrs. Slocombe utters those
immortal words, " What about my Pussy"? Humphries, comments,
"Tiddles, will have to cross his legs"
These bloopers are more in the area of continuity(i.e. script writing) than staging.

I can't remember the episode name, but it's the one where Mr. Grainger is in the mess with the rest of the gang and has pudding dribbling off his chin. (I think it's the one where he says, "How'd you arrive at that hypothesis?" and then utters he can't say that again because his teeth are caught up in the custard.) Anyway, you know he knew it was there and just kept on, probably to crack up his costars.
Come to think of it, Grainger eating anything in the canteen must have been an exercise in cracking up his costars as well as the audience.
Because, well, you know, Grainger was the star. :P

I caught a couple tonight in the episode "His and Hers"
The first thing I noticed is that in the episode the lift indicator only shows 4 floors. Basement, Ground Floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor, yet in "The Apartment" the 5th floor is being remodeled.
The next one I caught was when Mr. Humphries and Mr. Lucas are pantomiming Captian Peacock.
Mr. Humphries says "... otherwise I shall lose my position at Grace Brothers, a position I've held these 30 summers.... and a lot more winters" yet in the episode Gambling Fever, we hear:
Mrs. Slocombe: "I've got about a hundred pounds here"
Mr. Humphries: "Same as me"
Ms. Brahams: "Ear! You shouldn't have as much as me and Mrs. Slocombe, on account we've been here longer"
Somehow I find it hard to believe that a young thing like Ms. Brahams has been there more than 30 summers! :D

Harman messes up in the explanation of the "Brillo Pad" display being put on a random timing mechanism. He says it too late.

In "Memories Are Made Of This" Wendy starts cracking up at Mollie's over-exaggertaed "kiddie antics" when Wendy starts to leads her off the set...I believe just before the canteen scene. It's been a while since I have seen that one.
--------------------------
Wendy visibly loses her cool and starts laughing in "Father Christmas Affair."
"Did you get your minute stea-ea-eak?"
"No... :x ....they said it would take TEN minutes..." :P
It's all "downhill" from there as Arthur Brough starts mugging and slurping his food on purpose to further crack her cool.

I fall asleep to it and wake up to it and when I come home from work it's the first thing on the telie. These are so very cool. I especially like catching the stage hand changing the
Sensi-Touch display.....Isn't the guy in the forground the man who wanted
the clip-on bowtie that amused Capt'n Peacock so much....
Which brings up another question about the Production of AYBS....Is this show filmed straight through, no outtakes? with a alive audience?
Sometimes it seems that way. Which would help explain many of the bloopers....
Or is it just the British making a show on the cheap? Any Ideas?

The show was filmed live in front of an audience but as the actor state in various interviews, they were filmed with so much time alotted to them so that's why so many bloopers remained in them. These bloopers here were probably left in because no one but a total AYBS? nut like me would have taken notice !!! :lol2: No seriously though, they probably never figured that the show would have the staying power it did and would be seen so many times, over and over by us fans to even take notice to something like this.

Mr Humphries pawns his watch and chain ?10.00
Capt. Peacock pawns his studs ?10.00
Mrs. Slocombe pawns her semi-precoious ear-rings and part-crocidile purse ?10.00
Mrs. Brahams has nothing to offer so she get's it on tick - ? 10.00
Mr. Spooner pawns his electric fan ?1.00
That makes ?41.00
But when Mr. Harman calls it in, he say's "John Blinker here, can I have 50 quid to win on Inside Leg?"... Who had the other ?9.00??

In Christmas Crackers Mr. Mash refers to the wood alcohol as 97 percent proof....this may be a writing error. but only one of percent or proof should be used as both are measures of relative concentration strength. Proof numbers ranging from 1-200 while percent would go from 1-100.
50 proof means 25 percent alcohol.
I'm guessing the proper measure was 97% alcohol ( or 194 proof )

I always thought it was the troops themselves that evacuated, though the wording can be interchangably interpreted.
Cologne evacuated by Brittish Troops - Brittish troops evacuated stranded citizens of Colonge today ahead of an unexpected push by enemy troops....

Here is a camera blooper from "Forward, Mr. Grainger": It occurs when Mr. Rumbold is trying to tell Captain Peacock that Mr. Grainger will be taking over. Right after Rumbold's secretary leaves, and Peacock is still looking at the door, Rumbold tries to get Peacock's attention. The camera is behind Rumbold's back and is looking towards Peacock. For a split second, a vertical object comes into view on the right-hand side of the screen. I think it's the end of the prop wall used to form Rumbold's office.

There are a couple of great ones with John Inman performing little slights-of-hand on camera.
In German Week when Mr. Humphries and Mr. Lucas sings a drinking song and crash their mugs together, breaking them, only Mr. Lucas's mug breaks. While the audience is laughing at that, John breaks his own mug by hand so he can then do the Mr. Rumbold "Guess who?" gag with the handles.
In Wedding Bells (?) the customer with the toupee loses his toupee in the sweater in the script, but it actually winds up on the floor, so John goes over and picks it up while he's not speaking and can be seen in the background planting it in the sweater where it's supposed to go.

THE drinking game when I was in college was HI BOB!. Played while watching "the Bob Newhart" show on TV....Whenever someone on the show said the word "Bob",
you took a drink...If they said "Hi, Bob"...chug! I think the winner was the
last one conscious.
My drink of choice in college was Mountain Dew (soft drink), so I never personally participated. Occasionally, I might be called to referee though.

I was watching "The Takeover" tonight, and noticed when Capt. Peacock say's "What do we do now?" Mr. Lucas screams "Give them the soup back" and shoves 2 bowls of "soup" in Capt. Peacock's hands.
As he does this, Capt. Peacock accidently tilts the bowl in his left hand a little too far towards the camera revealing the secret that.... THE BOWLS ARE EMPTY! In the Pilot when Captain Peacock shows Lucas how to flute...
when he pulls the handkerchief from Lucas' pocket, you can barely see the

In The Club it appears that Trevor has a hard time wrapping his tongue around his "top notch swatches." It comes out "top notch squatches."
In Strong Stuff when the boys are moving the privacy screen so they can make their getaway, Mr. Lucas's underpants fall off and end up on the floor in a heap.
In A Personal Problem Mr. Humphries' tea cup drips noticeably everytime he sips in the canteen. And it appears to be dripping milk, which may have just puddled in his saucer.
In The Junior Mr. Goldberg tries to bribe Capt. Peacock in to admitting that he really DID know him by pulling out the picture of Peacock and pointing out Peacock's tattoo on this right shoulder. Well we see them all with their shirts off in Strong Stuff and there's no tattoo on his shoulder....
From The Apartment: In the first scene Mrs. S. is in her new digs, we see her smoothing out the coverlet on her bed. All of a sudden, two lamps go on, without her touching any switches! The one behind the area where the bed table is, and the lamp on the bedtable!
And in one of the funniest bloopers EVER....In Conduct Unbecoming Mr. H. is on "trial" and he's sitting in a wooden chair. Moira Foot plays Rumbolds secretary, Miss Thorpe in 3 consecutive episodes, but in each of them Captain Peacock seems to meet her for the first time....
And since he is smitten by her each time....it would seem unlikely for him to forget her. I know I didn't!
Well, that's how it appears to me.
That one drives me FD !!!! Peacock meets her in "German Week" and then is re-introduced to her in "Shoulder To Shoulder".
And then again in New Look.....Peacock with the classic line...
I thought I couldn't place the face....as she is bent over her bag.

I don't mean to change the subject, but I've hit upon another glitch in continuity while dealing with the accounts department (that new ledger clerk will keep telling me about Ramadam)
I've noticed whenever the Account's department is referred to they always say "Up in accounts", yet in the episode where Mr. Grace offers them a social club, Mr. Humphries say's "Accounts is in the basement, how are you going to get them down?"

I do believe Mr. H was referred to both as "Claybourne" (Clay) and as "Wilberforce." And speaking of getting fanned in the canteen....the kitchen staff weren't even using fans. They were using rug beaters. The prop budget must have been low for this ep. :|

Here's the Cold Comfort bloopers. Quite a few in this eppy !!!!
http://lordgreg.minki.net/ccblooper1.jpg
In the first picture, we see The Wibster's honey Sue Bishop looking towards the camera and pointing down at the counter cover when the show starts up.
http://lordgreg.minki.net/ccblooper2.jpg
In the second picture, we see the cleaners acting cold while for some reason,
Mr. Grainger is sitting on a chair in the background. I never got this because later on, we see him come out of the lift ????
http://lordgreg.minki.net/ccblooper3.jpg
In the third picture, we can see that the Men's glass counter top has been changed to wood for the "iron dropping down" bit.
http://lordgreg.minki.net/ccblooper4.jpg
In this fourth picture, we see when Humphries puts his water bottle up Graingers back, it didn't make it too far as Grainger walks away.
http://lordgreg.minki.net/ccblooper5.jpg
In the fifth picture, we see as Humphries is ironing Grainger's thermal pad, Grainger knocks down a sign in the background and doesn't pick it up.

I love those, Greg!! Especially the one where AB is sitting in the chair! Maybe he'd been to the pub and just felt like sitting for a spell before he went on!

RE: COLD COMFORT BLOOPERS
Is the Wood top pic a blooper or just a technical change....
BTW, you can see the piece of wood that slides out of the way so the iron
can drop (at least I think that's what it is).
Also, if its so cold in there, how come there is no visible "breath"...In AYBSA(GaF)
when they do the night recon job to get the sheep back ...you can see their breath.

I would assume that it was because they were outside in GaF. My school was freezing as always, but we didn't see breath come out of our mouths. Maybe the wind has something to do with it, but you raise a valid point Frank.

Not nessesarily a blooper but an observation.

I think the audience and actors would have found working in such freezing conditions to be in violation of their rights!

I saw something last night that I never saw before. In Fire Practice when they bring the dummy out to practice breathing on you can see someone thorugh the curtain (shoes) feeding the electrical cord to them.

Good job Greg and Dazz!
Bloopers - technical oops are so fun to find.
I just saw in "50 Years On" in the canteen scene when Mrs. Slocombe is dropping hints about birthdays, that the time on the clock never changes. It is 1:14 throughout the scene.

Somewhere on the Old Board we did a whole thread about the clock in the canteen. From scene to scene it didn't change. Different scenes were different times of course but if the staff were in the canteen for 10 minutes, the time never showed that !!! :lol2:

The writers never expected rabid fans to be looking at DVD's 30 years later!!

I have popped in quite often to read your light hearted bannter about one of my favourite BBC show's! Let me say I love it and thank you! I have a question about one episode and please correct me if I am wrong! I have watched this show for over 15 years and everytime I see the Pilot episode when Mr Lucas is straightening Mrs Slocombes tights, he get's up and Mr Humphries say's to him Griffin wants you instead of Grainger! Am I just hearing it wrong all these years? That one has always boggled me! Then again I am getting old to so could be imagining it! Thanks all!
