I had just heard about this and was coming here to post about it. I'm watching Tony Blair on Fox News now. I just can't believe it. A lady on an email list I'm on just wrote saying she has friends that were in the blast. The mom hasn't been found, and the two kids (who are teens to adults) are badly hurt. She was requesting prayer for them. Wow, it's really unbelievable.

All the prayers in the world aren't going to stop these pigs. That should be pretty obvious. I can only hope some plague will come down and wipe them all off the face of the earth. I feel deep sadness for our British pals at this time, and hope you...and the rest of the world....will be as safe as we can be in this wicked day and age of terrorism. Sad day, indeed.

A total heart felt condolence to all of our British friends. I was alerted to this disgusting act by a friend when I was at work today. Prayers are being said for the victims and their families.

These people who have taken Islam and perverted it the way Jim Jones perverted Christianity are nothing but cowards. In the end, they will have one entity to answer to and I really don't think he's going to be too happy with their deeds. That's all I am going to say for now. Seeing as my emotions are at their highest, I don't really want to go off on a rant and waste energy or time on these freaks.

I watched the afternoon coverage on BBC America during lunch. What a sad situation.

These terrorists will gets what's coming to them in the end, as Greg hinted at.....

Well, greg, I'M NOT going to be a good girl. I'm sick of these people. I think we just need to drop a bomb on Iraq and Iran and get rid of them. They hate us but they come here and get an education and use it against us. We should have left them bombed out instead of using our money to rebuild for them. They don't appreciate it anyway. I've just made a friend who lives in London. His mom losts thousands because her store was damaged. I'm just thankful they didn't get hurt. Britain stood by us when we went to war and now we are standing beside you. Britain will now always have 7/7/2005 in their hearts just as we have 9/11/2001. They need to be stopped. No more pussy-footing around. They whine that they're being treated bad in captivity. Whoop-de-doo. They cut off our heads and put it on tv.

Sorry for the rant and I hope this doesn't get pulled. I feel VERY strongly about this subject. Cowards kill themselves as well so they don't have to face up to their consequences!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x

Don't know if you've all heard this or not,

but the suicide bombers came from Britain-Leeds, in West Yorkshire.

They were born and raised in Britain...

Excellent post Wolf_Fire !!

Interesting note.....although they were raised in Britain, CBS and CNN report that these individuals had ties with Pakistani terror cells, and were eventually trained by a covert group of far-right Muslim extremists. Apparently one of them was a youth counselor of all things, waiting for his "orders."

What a strange world....

I'm so happy to see that the people of London are continuing to move on. Your USA buddies are right beside you no matter what! :D

Thanks VMG! I must admit, I was afraid I had gone a tad bit far. Usually, I'm more conservative on the boards, but these people really burn my toast! Yes, I did read that a couple of them were Pakistani. I also noticed that Britons had the same response we did after our terrorist attacks. Someone attacked someone who is a Pakistani.

You've done very well Wolf Fire !!!!!

Pamela, I didn't know that they decided there were "suicide bombers" as of yet. (shows what not watching the news can do for one. I'm so far back in the dark ages....). Sick, sick people they are..... they remind me of flys and makes one wonder... Why the hell were they ever put on Earth ?? I mean, what is their purpose in life ?????

Thank you for your thoughts. We're a pretty resiliant bunch though, and having lived with the IRA planting bombs for here for the past 30 years, it's going to take more than this to concern Londoners in particular and the country in general.

Yeah, they think he was a Suicide Bomber and the one who planted the bomb at The Oval station. They shot him 5 times until he was dead.

The Police statement said that the reason they shot him 5 times, was because it was a low velocity handgun, so as to reduce the risk to bystanders.

That's what they say any way ;)

As nobody else has posted anything about this, I feel I should put the record straight.

The man shot (eight times) was entirely innocent of any ties to terrorism or radical fundamentalism, in any of its despicable guises (Muslim, Christian, whatever).

He was a Brazilian national who was living and working lawfully in the UK.

It appears that he left his home in south London, noted that a lot of men seemed to be following him, got frightened and ran. Who knows what went through his head? Many are saying, 'If he had nothing to hide, he shouldn't have run.'

If several men in plain clothes seemed to be following me, I think I'd have run, too.

So.

Thank heavens I don't live in Stockwell.

Zircon, there are some Christians like myself who do not consider our religion to be a "despicable guise", as you put it. Careful not to judge everyone on the acts of a few misguided souls who may have made headlines by acting like fools.....

Not that it's in any way an excuse for what the police did Zircon, but his visa had expired, so he actually shouldn't still have been in the country.

I'm sorry I caused you offence. Allow me to explain my remark, as I feel I am actually quite innocent of the charges you make against me.

I said:

I did not mean to imply that religion is despicable. I meant to imply that terrorism and radical fundamentalism are despicable.

I should further clarify that I understand radical fundamentalism to be the use of religion to further an extreme agenda, usually in contradiction to the tenets of said religion.

The reason I did not restrict my comments to those who pursue an extreme Islamic agenda, is because I am very concerned at the way the Muslim world is taking the fall for - as you so rightly say - a few misguided souls. There are those who do awful things in the name of many religions.

Again, I apologise for the confusion. I hope this clears things up.

Yes, this development appeared on the news the VERY DAY after I made my post. It's almost like they were waiting for me ...

When I posted, I remembered Jack Straw speaking about the incident and saying, if you'll allow me to paraphrase, that he understood the young man to have been in the country lawfully. That was the basis of the information I had at the time.

Perhaps his visa situation goes some way to explaining his panic, as he became aware of the men who were following him. Then again, I'm in this country lawfully, have been for the 34 years of my life, and if I left my house and realised a bunch of men were covertly following me, I maintain I'd probably panic, too.

The point I was trying to make with my original post was that the matter was more complex than the (occasionally glib) comments in this thread indicated.

And as you say, a terrible incident, all round. I feel for the poor guy's family and friends, the police officers who were doing their utmost to protect our communities, and most of all, the loss of a life that shouldn't have been lost.
