The DVD's came out first in the States because it's a bigger market and because AYBS? is still making money in the UK. :)

Congratulations!
I admit, I do find it strange that we in the US got them on DVD first...then again like Sonosun said, we've got a lot of demand for them over here :)

Was just happy to throw away the old VHS tapes!
I got my AYBS DVDs through Amazon UK - so why can't British viewers?

I'm sure they can - Amazon.co.uk has many region 1 discs for sale now but they never used to. I have always used Amazon.com but a lot of people will only buy their own regions and so far the UK is only up to releasing season 3 on DVD.

I still find it hard to beleive that the country this show came from is only up to Season 3 while every where else it's out in box sets.
What is wrong with you BBC ????

Kind of OT, but I have a question. Are movies or shows that come out on dvd usually first released in the UK, and then brought to Canada/US at a later date?

No, for the most part most movies have a universal release date. Unless there is a disbute on who holds the right to the film/show on a certain continent but now the bigger studios have people on both sides of the pond to release stuff.

Ok thanks,
It's just a few movies that I've bought in the past were released in the UK way before it was here (ie: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.) And now, "Rock School" was released on Dvd in the UK in November and there's no hearing of it being released here or not. Kind of worries me.

Wasn't "Rock School" done in England in the first place ?? That might be an explanation.

Last night, I managed to find some news that it was to be released here in the summer. I don't know if the source was reliable, so I'm not going to fully fledge my heart to it.

Before the advent of DVD, movies would be released in the states a LONG time before the UK had them, we used to have to wait sometimes up to a year after. This can actually still be the case for smaller pictures or things that bombed. But now all the big popcorn movies have a general release date here and there at the same time. But generally speaking the UK still gets movies later. BUT on the other hand there is the odd acassion when a DVD can be released here first which is odd. But we also get some older movies to DVD first it's all down to the distributor. We got Pirate Movie on DVD before America did! Weren't we lucky!!!!!
In terms of AYBS? I guess that was just due to demand more than anything, if they think it will sell it will be released. Years ago I had to get Predator 2 on DVD from France as it was the only country that had released it! Also germany is the only country that has Monolith on DVD but it's in German! Not fair. Also USA has the Carry on Laughing TV show on DVD which has not been released here.

Not yet, I knew it was out on region 1 on the 7th but I'm in no rush for it so will wait a few more weeks until it's out here (on the 20th) as all my other HP's are region 2. I had read it sold amazingly. But does Ms Rowling get a share of the DVD sales though - it will depend on the contract she signed. She doesnt need any more money!!!

On the region 1 discs, which of them have any special features? As so far none of the region 2 ones have anything.

On sets 1-6, you only get lame trivia and a mini cast bio. It isn't until you get to disc 7 that you get "Funny Turns" a John Inman special (pretty good) then "Funny Women - Mollie Sugden" (pretty good) then "A Life In A Box - Wendy Richard" and finally, a mini Brit slang guide.
On sets 8-13 more lame trivia but disc 14 has "The Best Of AYBS?", The "Celebrating Mollie Sugden" special and the first eppy of Grace and Favour.

Thanks Greg - I think we have the lame trivia and bios also so I'm hoping the later discs will be the same too. Although it doesnt sound like I'd be missing too much anyway.
My series 4 was just shipped today so it looks like I'll have it before it's release date on monday!! YIPPEEEEEE!!!!! :D

Just add up what you're spending indivdually on the seperate ones and it will all work out....

I know, and it's probably cheaper that way but it's more difficult to find large amounts of money than small amounts of money!!

I forget how much I paid for my first set. Most places wanted $120+ for it and I found it for somewhere around 80 to 100 bucks. Now take 7 disc and times it by 20 bucks (give a bit for taxes and shipping). thats $140.00 bucks so in the long run, I saved a ton !!!
But I do see where you're coming from though. It's easier to grasp at a 20 dollar item then it is a $120.00 dollar one.
BUT...
If you have a region free player then you should be able to grab the ones we have and therefore you would have all of them in no time at all !!!

Now I've started on the region 2 discs I will stay with them as I like the whole lot to match!!! I'm weird like that!!!

I've just ordered the series 1-4 dvd's. My video copies look pretty worn, probably about 15 years old :|
I'll be glad when series 5 & onwards are released.
Just checked my Grace & Favour vids, these look pretty good :D
Also, i've just found on one of my vids that i have an interview with the cast on the Terry Wogan show, probably from the late eighties. Frank has a big beard
And.. i also have John talking about the show, to an American audience in the States. Great Stuff.
