Our local PBS station has REPLACED entirely AYBS with Allo Allo

I like Allo Allo but was waiting for AYBS to start over with the first episode again so I could start recording it on DVD (my tapes are wearing out).

They will be flooded with complaints though, AYBS is the biggest draw during all their fund-raisers. :D

Another 'They quit AYBS? and I was waiting to tape them in order'. Mr Harmon you could have read one of the many posts in which I said I was waiting to tape them in order and my PBS Station has never ever shown it again. Hopefully yours will. You could give up your daily Cuban cigar and buy the DVD set. The real message is either beg, borrow , or buy the DVD set, or support your local PBS station and I too feel your pain. :hat:

I feel your pain too. Our local PBS station also recently canceled it. I got the DVDs before that happened tho.

Well, we just got the DVD recorder only a couple of weeks ago, and I probably have all the episodes on tape, the problem is transferring from tape to DVD sadly lessens the quality so I was hoping to record it directly from the broadcast. That and my tapes are wearing out,so a couple have bad spots and several episodes have NOAA weather blurbs in the middle of them.

Unfortunantly, I can't afford the box-set even from ebay. We justified the DVR only because we got it on sale and for what it would cost to replace the VCR that totally died we could spend the same amount and get the DVR, but we don't have that much left over at the end of the month for "extras".

Unfortunantly, I have been supporting my PBS station, but I plan to call them on Monday and ask them what happened to my "Vote with your pledge" pledge. Maybe if all the AYBS fans started damanding their money back they'd get the message.

I'm sorry to hear about that Harmon! Our PBS station did just the opposite, finally getting a "new" season (the season with Mr. Goldberg) after showing seasons 1-3 for the last three years.

If you have a phone number or email address of your station let us know and we'll "call" on your behalf......

I was sad too!!!

I don't even think Allo Allo is funny these days...not with our own political situation such as it is.

Having said that, I did giggle right out loud tonight at one spot in the show. (the apron over his head) :lol2:

Remember when AYBS? was on every night on PBS in Little Rock... but of course, I do love "Last of The Summer Wine" when it is on.

For the longest time I could turn on PBS on Saturday at 6PM and leave it there all night long..... and count on loving all the shows! Now I already skip over "Hero" and will probably skip over "Allo Allo" too.

Vicar!! Howdy Neighbor! :D

I'm definately calling Conway on Monday and complaining... loudly! :D Of course I did the same thing when they switched from every night to once a week too and a right lot that did :x (I think they filed me under T for troublemaker :D)

I used to tape it every night when it was on nightly, so I went through all my tapes last night (11 in all) and found I do have every episode recorded, but some have bad spots on them and others are interrupted by Severe Weather Warnings. Unfortunantly, I'll have to live with this for The Club and The Junior as in all this time, I've only been able to catch those once.

So now I'm going to spend the day transferring the eppy's (in proper order) from worn out tapes to DVD :D

I had this problem years ago with PBS. I started taping them in order and they would repeat a show (by accident I'm sure) then skip the one that was really in line and go on with the next one. There went the taping for that Season !!! I got sick of it and bought the DVD's and haven't regretted it since !!!! No longer at the mercy of the fascist PBS stations mate... Watch it anytime I want.

Move to Alabama. APT's been showing it every Saturday night for years (I don't know exactly when, but I know it had been on for several years before I started watching it in the mid-90s.) I usually watch the DVDs now rather than APT's broadcasts, but I was channel-surfing last night and happily came across Mr. Lucas selling that vicu?a coat to YMG yet one more time on Charter channel 12. Some things never change. :)

Howdy backatcha neighbor!

I recall that very well myself...
That was when I was a regular paying customer. :) In fact, I had just pledged $60 ~ I wanted the Mollie Sudgen Coffee Mug ~ and they dropped AYBS? from every night so quickly I decided to cancel it. Like you said that "Vote Your Pledge" is a big joke! John Inman was there I think. He was really good about coming to Conway wasn't he? They provided him a luxury "star trailer" for his visits...if I remember correctly.

It's nice that you can do that. I wouldn't have the slightest idea about it. In fact, I don't think I have even used the VCR since I replaced the last one...but it does hold up the little 13 inch TV rather nicely.

Oooooohhhh.... They killed me with kindness! :D

I called my local PBS station to ask them why I should continue to support a station that would cancel the only show I watch on their channel, but before I could even switch into snotty mode the programming director got in a pre-emptive first stike of kindness and hit me square amid-ships in my snottyness magazine. BOOM!

She was so nice we even ended up chatting about our other favorite Brit-Coms :lol2:

She said after they run them a time or two they trade them to other stations for other shows. I guess this trade was AYBS for Allo Allo.

It could have been worse though. It could have been Dr. Who :lazy:

Good News Vicar, she said Vicar of Dibley is wildly popular right now, but she said she's also received a few complaints from the evangelical sector who think it takes too much liberty at poking fun at religion. Eh, there's one in every crowd I guess.

Anyway, she took my name and where I lived and she promised she'd send me a card when they reschedule it, but unfortunantly, it's gone for now.

She's gooooood!
She actually avoided answering your question too. What difference does your vote/pledge do if they automatically trade anyway?

I appreciate the follow-up, Mr. Harmon. Good for you for calling. I think I'll call the 800 number and ask for a postcard to be sent me when "Allo Allo" is GONE
... so I can turn the station back on again. :lol2:

I have a feeling pledge-time is coming up all-to-soon too.

Hoping to hear you get that AYBS? postcard/notice REAL soon. :P

Mr. Harmon,

I decided to e-mail AETN instead of phoning my displeasure. I got a response from the Viewing Service Cordinator. Bottom line, I got a similar "we are sorry you are not happy, but....". However, she said they would send an email when either "AYBS?" returns....or "All Creatures Great and Small".

I don't have spell check on the forums, but I do for e-mail. It didn't do me much good this time, tho. Ater I sent it, I cracked meself up when I read what I had mailed. Here's a paragraph from what I wrote them:

E-mail message

It's bad enough I have to skip over the annoying "Hero" show on Saturday nights. Now I have to hope skip and jump my way through the usual relaxing Saturday evening viewing.

See what I mean? I guess I am getting to old to HOP, so I just hope skip and jump. :lol2:

Waay back when, our local PBS use to run AYBS nightly. They tried to cancel it one summer, but quickly brought it back after complaints flooded the station. Later the weeknight airings ended, but continued on Saturday night. Then, it was not to be seen at all, being replaced with Keeping Up Appearances (which I do enjoy) and several others (most of which I do not like) on a roatating basis. Recently AYBS has made a comeback during our 1.5 hour Saturday Night "British Comedy" segment. I show my support (or lack there of) during pledge drives with my checkbook. (No AYBS, no check!)

Hi Maurice,

We thought that was the way it was supposed to work too. However, from the experiences we've had, I just don't believe it anymore.

I have the feeling that all rotations are set. Much like round robin, when the rotation has been set the entire schedule would be ashambles if one station started dilly-dallying with a program here and a program there.

And if that is the case, 'specific' pledges are meaningless no matter what we are told in those drives, wouldn't you say? Their job is to rake in the money.

I don't doubt that once upon a time, that voting with your pledge worked. I just don't see it now.
Just MNSHO, of course. :P

BTW Welcome to the AYBS? board :hat:

Hey Vicar,

You probably are correct. Heck, they do not even have he neat incentives anymore. My prize AYBS possession is our Grace Bros. tote bag. What I find funny is that even though we have all the DVDs and often watch several discs in one evening (the whole family loves the show and can and do quote many of the lines as situations present themselves during the day), we still get excited when we hear "cha-ching" at 11:00 on Saturday nights and sit back to enjoy another televised episode for the *** time. The nice thing about the DVDs, though, is the lack of station ID in the lower righthand corner of the screen.

Thanks for the welcome! I have actually been a lurker for quite some time but decided it was time to register and join in the fun.

So glad you decided to join in, that's more fun for us too!!!

You're right about hearing the theme and happily watching it a-g-a-i-n.

I wonder if it has anything to do with not picking out the eppy ....just sitting down and getting to enjoy what's on? :?: You know like someone else making the coffee and bringing you a cup ~ you know it is going to taste like coffee but it always just tastes better. :P

DRRROOOOOOLLLL!!! I have never seen it so clear... even while watching the direct broadcast!!

I am now completely addicted to these DVD's. Forget the tape->disk transfer, I'm going to take Sonsun's advice, forego the Havanna's in the Humidore and start picking up one of these DVD's every month :D :D :D

I think you're right, Vicar. My husband and I have all the DVDs but prefer to watch BBC America's daily showing and our PBS station's Sunday showing- even with all the commercials on BBC America. I guess I also get a thrill knowing that the show is being aired and reaching other households.
I remember when my PBS station stopped airing AYBS -this was before the DVD release - it was a dark time. I had to watch grainy, incomplete, VHS versions as I never bothered to tape all the episodes. Moral of the story? Get the Dvds as soon as you can.

Makes it rough when the house is noisey.

The disc doesn't have subtitles, but you can see the captions if you use your TV's remote to turn them on (that is, if your TV is less than 10 years old).

I just checked the packaging my DVD's came in and the the first DVD has a table of contents with a short synopsis of each episode on the back and under all of that it says DVD EXtras and under that it says CC amongst other things. I thought it didn't have Closed Captioning. I guess I need to learn how to turn it on. :D
