Keeping Up Appearances, Benny Hill, Murder Most Horrid, Dad's Army, and As Time Goes By.

I would've liked to have seen Hyacinth Bucket coming into Grace Brothers department store and butting heads with Mrs. Slocombe.

Talk about two strong personalities...England wouldn't have seen two more stubborn women since Katherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn!

I think Hyacinth going to stay at Fawlty Towers would've created *bigger* fireworks! Between Basil dealing with her, and Hyacinth trying to communicate her ***very*** specific needs to Manuel, it would be PAINFUL!!

I love Blackadder. Especially the second series.
I have quite a fondness for 'Allo 'Allo.
The Monty Python chaps are legends.

Other than that, most of the comedy I enjoy hasn't been mentioned on this thread. Perhaps it's an acquired taste. I'll watch anything with Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall in it: The Young Ones, Filthy, Rich and Catflap, Bottom. I'm a big fan of Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, and their recent surreal road-comedy Catterick was superb. And there's a show on over here called Black Books which consistently cracks me up.

Comedy aside, I'd like to raise a hand and acknowledge my first, truest love. Yes, I too am a Doctor Who fan. Diddly dum, diddly dum ...

You need a multiregion DVD player. It's available R2, and is well worth the investment. Side-splitting stuff.

Hate DVD regions. The only reason I didn't buy "Grace and Favour" when it first came out was because I had no idea it was available. It was quite by chance that I discovered it had been released, R1 only.

Last time I was in the States, I looked around on behalf of a friend for a multiregion machine (as I'd brought some DVDs with me that wouldn't play on hers). I was astonished at how difficult they were to find. Many of the stores we checked were actually under the impression that buying a multiregion player was illegal!!!

Over on this side of the pond, you'd struggle in today's market to find a machine that isn't multiregion (or at least, immediately hackable to make it multiregion).

As to why the two series weren't readily available R2 -- couldn't begin to imagine. AYBS? is on pretty much daily on one of the satellite/digital channels, but even so -- you'd think there'd be a market.

If you're interested in F, R & CF ... let's call them 'previews' ... then feel free to mail me off-forum.

I haven't seen a Britcom that I haven't liked yet!

Benny Hill was brilliant!!! I grew up watching the edited shows & was surprised by how much they cut out. Look at all the songs he wrote in addition to the skits -- Wow! I would argue that he paved the way for many comedies including the Carol Burnett show.

spoonme

It ran for two seasons on channel 4 (the minority channel!) 1999 - 2001.
Hard to explain but this is what IMDB say:

'The adventures of Tim and Daisy who rent a room in Marsha Klein's house under the pretense that they are a couple. Also in the house is frustrated painter Brian. Together with TA fanatic Mike and Daisy's girlfriend Twist the duo get into a series of situations with hilarious results'.

I guess it's like a cult show really, loved by sci-fi and horror fans mostly as they spoof movies and TV shows in the context of their own sitcom. VERY VERY funny - same people made Shaun of The Dead.
