A Tribute to John Inman
Saturday 31 March
8:25pm - 9:05pm
BBC2
Wendy Richard presents a tribute to the late John Inman, with contributions from fellow actors and collaborators, including Melvyn Hayes, Rula Lenska and Barry Howard. Followed by a special repeat of Are You Being Served - Front Page Story. John Inman plays Mr Humpries who becomes editor of the staff in-house magazine and organises a beauty contest.
Very disappointing - the 'tribute' programme includes the episode, so the actual tribute is only 10-15 minutes long! Terrible!

I live in the USA and unfortunately I don't get BBC2. I don't want people to confuse this with BBC America, which some of us (not me... ) do actually get.

But the BBC has no commercials so at least it's 10-15 solid minutes of content, not 7 minutes of content and 8 minutes of advertisements.

I guess they whipped it right out, just to be timely. I'd rather they'd wait and make it something special. I hate it when they prey on the emotions of people while they are still stunned. I hope it's at least worthy.

I have to partly agree. With more time we could have had a half-hour programme.
If it's short enough, I'll try to put it on Youtube at some point.

Personally I find this a bit of a poor effort on behalf of the BBC. An hour's programme with a detailed biography and interviews with people who knew him would be alot better than an AYBS episode with a tribute tacked to the front.

I agree, it was very short and I found most of the clips were the same as 'Funny Turns' I thought they might have done something a bit different.
I was still lovely though, I found the contributions quite moving

Watched it later on last night, it wasn't too bad, but would have been nice to see the other AYBS stars. Only Nicholas Smith and Wendy Richard were featured.
Is it just me, or does Wendy Richard seem really bitter about everything?

hmph, this was a very, very lame tribute indeed.
Surely this warranted an actual half hour of comments etc, not 10 minutes?
Mind you, plenty of great people die, and there's no tribute to them whatsoever.

I hope they show this on PBS or something so we across the pond can see it.

This was basically a rehash of "Funny Turns" with just a few extra tributes. I found it dissapointing and very poor indeed. John deserved alot more after all he'd given to the BBC over the years.

Unfortunately, the BBC forget very quickly. After all, it took years for them to release AYBS DVDs over here!!

Sorry it wasn't better. Why don't we make our own? We can all send our favorite pix and memories and put them on a thread together!

Funny how the fascist don't forget to cash those checks in that come from all the AYBS? merchandise that still sells.

Well thanks for the head up. Since we only get BBC America here in the States on my cable line up, it will probably be awhile before we get to actually view it. It was not on BBC America that I noticed and kept a lookout. I would have thought the PBS stations would have done something since he was so beloved there for all he did for them. Oh well maybe something is in the works.

That's a good idea. We could start a separate message board just for that. Minki good idea?

It's a shame more PBS stations didn't do something. After all he did a lot for the stations all across the country.
