The U.K.'s answer to Barney: It's 'Teletubbies' time
??Show is widely popular
(since 1997)
LONDON At the same time every morning, toddlers at the Hyde Park Nursery School eagerly gather in front of the telly, bubbling with excitement and rocking with glee. Although they're only 2 years old, they know it's time for "Teletubbies."
Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po, techno-babies with television screens on their bellies, are the featured players in this simplistic children's show.
They live in Teletubby land, spending their days eating tubby custard and playing with their pet vacuum cleaner, Nu Nu.
The Teletubbies' creator, former English teacher Anne Wood, says the show is educational, although not in the traditional way.
"It's gentle, it's happy, it's joyous, it's positive, it's life-affirming," Wood said. "Who wouldn't watch it?"

Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po
I just wonder about that Laa Laa. Could he be from Little Hampton?
My 11 year old used to watch Teletubbies and he really cracked up at that Sunbaby. 8)

Wasn't it the neatest thing to watch them? My youngest grandson is about to turn 7 and when he was tiny he did was the same way. He'd laugh outloud with that sunbaby. If he wasn't in front of the TV he would come a-running when he heard it.
Then, all too soon it seemed, it's time for "Tubby Bye-Bye"

Getting to know the Teletubbies:
Tinky Winky is purple and has a triangle aerial on his head. He's not just the biggest Teletubby, but also very gentle. His favorite thing is his red bag. Tinky Winky loves walking, marching, dancing and falling over. He has a special song which he loves to sing to himself, "Pinkle winkle, Tinky Winky, pinkle winkle, Tinky Winky." Tinky Winky loves big hugs.
Dipsy is green, the second biggest Teletubby and undoubtedly the most stylish. He has a straight aerial on his head. His favorite thing is his black and white hat. Dipsy loves to dance, make cool moves and fancy steps. He has a special song which he likes to sing to himself, "Bup-a-tum, bup-a-tum, bup-a-tum." Being super-cool doesn't stop Dipsy loving big hugs.
Laa-Laa is yellow with a twirly aerial on her head. She is very giggly and fun-loving and her favorite thing is her bouncy orange ball. Laa-Laa loves to dance, skip and sing songs. She has a special song which she likes to sing to herself, "Laa-laa-li-laa-laa-li-laa-li-laa." Laa-Laa also loves big hugs.
Po is red and the smallest Teletubby, with a circular aerial on her head. She is a confident, happy individual and her favorite thing is her pink and blue scooter which she rides very fast. Po loves to dance and sing and do as she chooses. She has a special song which she likes to sing to herself, "Fi-dit, fi-dit, fi-dit, fi-dit." Po loves big hugs best of all.

I quite enjoyed watching them on Sunday mornings... too much that I had to stop watching them and recording them for my niece because I was scaring the HELL out of myself !!!!

I have to admit, I used to watch the Teletubbies every once in awhile if nothing else was on. But only for a few minutes, and if nobody else was around.
I think it changed my whole future.

I just say I'm doing research to keep up with what the grandkids are watching. That IS how it starts out usually anyway.

You're just doing your job.
I should use the excuse of keeping up with what my baby cousin is watching. Only he watches Dora the Explorer, and I already admit to watching that. Haha

Without this last grandchild I never would have known anything about PowerRangers or Teletubbies, Noddy or Pok?man and Yugiho cards!
...and the worst part is, I never would have known I was missing anything.

When they first were coming on US TV, I wasn't sure what to expect... :)
The more we watched Teletubbies, along with our little ones, the more we grew to like them, didn't we? I know MarieEllen will soon l-o-v-e the sunbaby too.

Good Lord, Boohbahs scare the bananas out of me!
At Zellers in the toy section we were shopping for my younger cousin's birthday one year, and they had Boohbah toys. When you squeezed it, something fuzzy would pop out, it was creepy!

I don't wear my glasses to bed, so I'd see some laughing blob. Nothing out of the ordinary.
