Some of you may remember my site, Diana's Canteen, a site I created on webtv. I was trivia host at UAYBS for Minki and own bunches of memorabelia. I'll try to get a foot in the Grace Brothers multimedia dept. when Crystal gets it back on the net.
I'm sorry to have been away so long. John's passing made me homesick so I sought out others who would understand how I feel. I was distressed to hear of our John's passing on March 8th from complications of Hepatitis A. John Inman, the beloved Mr. Humphries, has passed away at age 71. (http://www.minki.net/aybsforum/../aybs/updates.html)
There are hardly words to describe how I feel knowing I'll never see another pantomime starring this gentle genius. John's smile, wit, and personality made him the one celebrity I will always cherish. I met him twice, once at a WGBH Boston pledge drive, where I gave him a unique tie tack. Four years later following the Aladdin panto in Portsmouth 2001, my best friend Crystal and I were told he'd see us backstage. Ron brought us along and he hugged me and was gracious enough to spend most of an hour talking to us before inviting us to a cast party. He bought us a drink and introduced us around. This man who loved his art more than anything gave so much of himself to us. I for one am eternally grateful for getting me through tough times and introducing me to my soulmate. John's memory will never leave me. I will toast him on his birthday, wedding anniversary and whenever I hear "I'm free."
A fine not so old English gentleman. Gone home.:humphries01::grouphug:
I'd like contact information for his charity so I can make a memorial donation. Anyone?

Laurel!!!! Long time no type! I had wondered what had happened to you and Crystal--one moment you two were here and next, you two and your sites were gone. The last thing I had heard was that you two were off to see the panto.
I'm glad to see that you're both alive and well! :D
And welcome to the AYBS madhouse :frog:

Hail Minki
Our server went out and then I gave up webtv when I moved in with her. We will be getting things back in order soon. We just heard about John today from Robert. Still teary-eyed. Watching the show now and using it as I always have. A balm in trying times. Ironic but it does help. I tend to take comfort as I do with home movies. I often think of you and the fun we used to have. First stop after I heard about John was your site. How did you hear? Answer by e-mail, not here. Let's get back into the old routine.

Yeah, we had lots of fun, especially those trivia tourneys and chats! :D It's good you're back. I'll send you a private message or e-mail (I can look it up in your profile) later tonight to catch up--the Little Mink just woke up from a nap and is yelling for me!

Greg, have you been around in other manifestations prior to this, or have you always been here? I think we are both cut from the same pinstriped cloth. AYBS was the most important thing in my life. The show is my savior as it held me up during the darkest times of my life. Although when I was gone from here, it remained my security blanket.

I've been on "The Canteen" a few time (still shy about the net back then) and then joined up here with Minki Moo 2 boards ago. I totally agree that AYBS? IS tops in my life. My life sort of revolves around the show. I wake up to it in the mornings, I fall asleep to it at night. When my Mother was have a bad time with cancer and needed someone to stay with her, I had plenty of AYBS? VHS tapes packed up to help me out.

Hi and welcome. I think I remember you from 'The Canteen', too. I was AYBS? Fan back then. That was certainly a very long time ago. I also remember seeing your site, too. Yes, John's passing certainly is a shock to all of us. It's still hard to believe that he's gone and we'll never get to see him again in person. At least you're lucky. You got to meet him twice. I've always wanted to meet him, but never got the chance. Anyway, I'm happy that you got those chances. That cast party must've been a lot of fun. As for the charity donation, I don't have a clue. Sorry. Maybe someone else would know that info.

Thanks everyone, the only good thing about John passing is me coming back 'ere and sharing a bit with you all. I have missed this. I watch the show every day. If a britcom is on dvd Crystal and I own it. The only tv I watch from US is Monk, Psych, and Las Vegas. I will also watch Still Standing because of the guy from Full Monty.
Late night I watch Craig and saw him recently in Vegas.roflmao.

I read in the local paper of John's passing. He did a pledge drive at our PBS station back in the 90's. It's such a shame he had to leave us. Sadly we have lost quite a few cast members over the years. He will be missed.
