I thought it might be a good idea to test each other's musicial abilities and write a song.
Since Summer is drawing close, let's write different songs about Summer. Please keep 'em clean, of course. :D
I'm so glad that Summer, is drawing near
Because that means I can drink, a lot of Root Beer.
Summer romping in the sun, eating grilled hamburgers on bun.
We'll all have so much fun, until Summer's done.

How about a sort-of haiku?
In summer I like to eat plums
They tast good to my tum-tum
Then I'll make a potion
With suntan lotion
So I won't get burned on me bum!

Rach, I really liked your song. Young Mr. Grace, yours was hilarious! :lol2:
I'm not very poetic, so I think I'll pass and enjoy everyone else's. Little Boy Blue writes poetry so I'll tell him about this thread.

Summer's here and boy it's hot
We must pretend that it is not
Fans aren't running, Pudding's soft
Let's just call the whole thing off
Goin' Hooooooome...
Gonna shead this suit and tie
Goin Hoooooooome...
Lose these shoes before I die
Goin Hoooooooome...
Stop off at the four ale bar
Goin Hoooooooome...
Then nod off in a tube car
Mr. Grace that damned old fool,
you can bet that he is cool
AC in his office loo
What can we lowly staffers do?
Goin' Hooooooome...
Gonna head out to the pool
Goin' Hooooooome...
To have a dip and act a fool
Goin' Hooooooome...
Gonna shake off all this dread
Goin' Hooooooome...
At the top of Beachy Head
Goin' Hooooooome...
Maybe I'll head down to Brighton
Goin' Hooooooome...
For a wild weekend of Fightin,
Goin' Hooooooome...
Or Old Trafford to catch a game
Goin' Hooooooome...
(If Glazier hasn't gone insane)
I'm Goin' Hooooooome...

Summers here and I'm all wet
Really hate the heat and sweat.
Blazing hot and sunny skies.
Mosquito bites and G**Damned flies !!!!
How I miss the skating rink,
All's I got is trash to stink.
Summer, you're a bummer !!!!
Summer, You're a bummer !!!!

Wow!, those were some really great Summer songs.
An Ode To Summer
As I look out my window, at the newly formed day
I see Children having fun, romping in Summer Play.
Ice Cream Cones and Cherry Cokes, All kinds of Happy Folks.
A young girl smiles and laughs in Summer love at her handsome Bloke.
For Summer's here, it's time to play and, darlin', that's no Joke.

Personally, I always say "Why create, when you can steal?"
To this end I offer a pair of 'Grace and Favour' filks. You chaps know what filks are, right? They're not exactly off topic, but this seemed like a good place to put them. And they're very definitely summer-themed.
Enjoy!

In the Summertime
(Original lyrics by Ray Dorset)
In the summertime, when the weather is hot,
Mr Rumbold's pink, likes the shadier spots.
When the weather's fine,
Captain Peacock has Miss Lovelock on his mind.
Even goes for a ride!
(Though getting down is something of a bind.)
When the guests arrive, it's all hands to the ropes!
And it's thirsty work, but they manage to cope,
When the day is done,
There's a nice cold drink to help them all revive.
Mavis offers buns,
Mr Humphries offers a Zombie Surprise.
They're no threat, people.
(Watch out, Stephen's got a gun!)
They're a family, now, and muck-spreading is fun,
'Neath the summer sun,
They will make the best out of their pension fund.
Though when bedtime comes,
Mr Humphries can't decide if he's a 'one' ...
Now Miss Brahms, she's keen, all the lolly to cop,
Double-bubble's nice, lady magistrates, not.
Captain Peacock's tall.
(Though he'd rather leave the cat inside the wall.)
They're our heroes, all.
And they'll teazle left and right until they fall!

And here's the second. This one has stage directions, so try to visualise ...
~~~
Summer Nights
(Original courtesy of 'Grease'.)
The curtain lifts on our stage; the reception hall at Millstone Manor. All residents and Mr Moulterd form a semi-circle around Mr Humphries and Mavis, who sing:
[Mavis Moulterd]
Summer lovin', had me a blast.
[Mr Humphries]
That bed-sharing happened so fast!
[Mavis Moulterd]
Met a lad, quiet as can be.
[Mr Humphries]
Met a girl, crazy for me ...
[Both]
Summer days spent shelling peas,
But uh, oh those summer nights.
[The rest]
Well-uh, well-uh, well-uh -
Mr Moulterd shifts closer to Mrs Slocombe and reaches behind her. Mrs Slocombe startles.
[Mrs Slocombe]
Ooh!
Mrs Slocombe turns to the triumphantly smiling Mr Moulterd and clouts him over the head with her handbag. The rest shoot them both stern looks, until they settle down.
[The rest, bar Mrs Slocombe]
Tell me more! Tell me more!
[Miss Brahms to Mr Humphries]
Were you making demands?
[The rest]
Tell me more! Tell me more!
[Mr Humphries, nodding agreement at Miss Brahms]
'Watch where you put those hands!'
[Everyone]
Uh huh (etc)
[Mavis]
He don't know how nice 'e is.
[Mr Humphries]
It's innocent! That's what it is!
[Mavis]
He's no bother, sharing a bed.
Everyone looks pointedly at Mr Humphries.
[Mr Humphries]
Would you get those thoughts out your heads!
[Both]
Summer sun, picnics with buns,
But uh-oh those summer nights!
[The rest]
Well-uh, well-uh, well-uh -
Mrs Slocombe leans behind Captain Peacock, who startles.
[Captain Peacock]
Yow!
He turns to his other side, to see Miss Lovelock looking innocent, and immediately smiles a very pleased smile.
[The ladies]
Tell us more! Tell us more!
[Mrs Slocombe]
What I'd most like to know -
[The ladies]
Tell us more! Tell us more!
[Mrs Slocombe]
Briefs beneath your pillow?!
Everyone nudges each other suggestively.
[Everyone]
Uh huh (etc)
[Mr Humphries]
We went sawing, cutting firewood.
[Mavis]
His back was aching, I offered a rub!
[Mr Humphries]
She had me in the vegetable patch.
[Mavis]
He don't know he's really a catch.
[Both]
Summer fling -
[Ad lib Mr Humphries]
Excuse me?
[Mavis, ignoring him]
Chance'd be a fine thing!
[Ad lib Mr Humphries]
And what's that supposed to mean?
[Mavis, pointedly]
But -
[Mr Humphries]
I know, those summer nights!
[Everyone]
Well-uh, well-uh, well-uh -
Captain Peacock leans behind Miss Lovelock. Miss Lovelock jumps, looks askance at him and slaps his face. Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms snigger.
[Captain Peacock]
Ow!
[The gentlemen]
Tell us more! Tell us more!
[Mr Moulterd]
'As she been makin' eyes?
[The gentlemen]
Tell us more! Tell us more!
[Mr Moulterd]
Do I 'ave to chastise?
[Everyone bar Mr Moulterd]
Shoo-bop-bop (etc)
Mavis looks nervously at her father. Mr Humphries appears wary, and shakes his head firmly at Mr Moulterd. Mr Moulterd backs down, mollified. Mavis recovers and takes her 'protector's' arm in gratitude.
[Mr Humphries]
She got friendly, under the sheets.
[Mavis]
Got to say, he's got lovely warm feets!
[Mr Humphries]
She is sweet, but so very young.
[Mavis]
He's quite handy if there's drains to unbung!
[Ad lib Captain Peacock to Mrs Slocombe]
Is that supposed to be a metaphor?
[Both]
Summer heat, boy and girl meet -
[Ad lib Mr Humphries, pleased]
'Boy'!
Mr Humphries loses his smile when Mavis snuggles up against him.
[Mavis]
But uh-oh, those summer nights!
[Everyone]
Whoa, whoa, whoa -
[Mr Humphries]
Yikes!
[The ladies]
Tell us more! Tell us more!
[Miss Brahms]
What on earth's going on?!
[The gentlemen]
Tell us more! Tell us more!
[Mr Rumbold]
He used to be such a 'one' ...
The backing music slows right down. Mr Humphries and Mavis clasp hands in the centre, facing each other, the spotlight on them alone.
[Mavis]
Soon the nights will start drawing in.
[Mr Humphries]
Wonder why that's making you grin?
[Mavis]
A little kiss would keep cold at bay.
[Mr Humphries]
Now let's not get carried away ...
[Both]
Summer dreams ...
Mr Humphries gets a far-away look in his eye.
[Mr Humphries]
Hot tubs and steam!
Mavis, not to mention the dimly present cast, all turn to Mr Humphries in astonishment. Mr Humphries blushes.
[Ad lib Mr Humphries]
Well we can't help what we dream about, can we?
Mavis arches a brow, smirks and drags Mr Humphries into a rather possessive embrace.
[Mr Humphries, swooning slightly]
Oh!
[Both]
But uh-oh, those summer ... nights!
[Everyone]
Tell me more ...
[Ad lib Miss Brahms to Mrs Slocombe]
Did they actually tell us anything?
[Everyone]
Tell me more ...
[Captain Peacock to Miss Lovelock]
It's really rather romantic, isn't it, Jessica?
Miss Lovelock shoots Captain Peacock a rather poisonous look, still smarting about the way he groped her.
[Everyone]
Tell me mo...or...orrrre!
As the song reaches its crescendo, Mavis eyes Mr Humphries. In a single fluent gesture she bends him back and, as his arms flail helplessly, moves in for a kiss. The spotlight winks out, there is the sound of a tumble and a crash.
[Ad lib Mr Humphries]
Ow ...
Summer in Arizona
Oh its hotter than hot in Arizona,
Its hotter than heck,
Those who say its a dry heat
can just kiss my ....neck?
Oh it rains a lot in Arizona
This statement is profound
Lots of clouds and thunder
but the rain doesn't hit the ground.
When its 90 degress in Arizona
its different you know
In other places it'd be the high
but around here its the low
Oh its great in Arizona
even with all the heat
cause all the snowbirds have left town
I think that's pretty neat
(any rebuttal Sonosun? or other zonies?)
